С. 76–91.

The paper discusses the results of a series of experimental studies on scalar inferences, which is part of linguistic pragmatics. The findings argue for intrascalar and interscalar diversity of scalar inferences. Moreover, it shows that adjectival scalar inferences are derived at a relatively low rate.

This article offers a critical analysis of the classical dichotomy between “what is said” and “what is implicated” in philosophy of language. The author argues that a rigid separation between semantics and pragmatics is insufficient to account for the full spectrum of linguistic meaning. Key examples examined include use-conditional meaning, which is conventional yet affects ...

In this article, I discuss Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofer’s ideas about the nature of language and the metaphysical residue that seems to be present in the realm of immediate experience, despite all the criticism and success of positive knowledge. This includes, first and foremost, the ability to perceive objects, facts, and possible worlds which humans have from ...

This study presents a framework for evaluating the effectiveness of language models (LLMs) in detecting disagreement across a wide range of pragmatic strategies, from mitigated forms to overt verbal aggression. Special attention is given to complex cases of implicit manifestations of irony and sarcasm, which pose significant challenges for both automated analysis and interpersonal communication. ...

The article examines the pragmatical felicity conditions for utterances with implied meanings. Historically, in the discussion of the utterance felicity, two key approaches were formulated in the works of Wittgenstein and Austin. The first is based on the analysis of speech behavior (behaviorist), today it has developed into the theory of commitment. The second approach, ...

This paper discusses the Routinicon, a new constructicographic resource for the description of conversational routines. Conversational routines are defined as conventional formulaic expressions that language speakers use in standard extralinguistic situations (cf. Human communication consists in exchanging information between communicants. Communicants depart from their personal subjective perception of the objective reality, based on their individual understandings, impressions, and associations. Exchanging information means to realign such personal perceptions with each other. How can two speakers be certain that they understand the words in one and the same way? ...

In this paper, we explore the behavior of one complex disjunction in Russian that has some special properties that set it apart from other simple and complex disjunctions: it never gives rise to free choice inferences in environments in which other disjunctions do and under universal quantifiers it behaves different from other disjunctions. We show ...

Creating a corpus labeled with dialog acts is one of the most difficult tasks in corpus linguistics. Dialog acts can reflect various aspects of the utterances in the dialogues, but most often represent the pragmatic intentions of the speaker or the features of the dialog discourse. The pragmatic and discourse functions of one utterance can ...
