Do online platforms impact performance in agile teams?
Faced with the high levels of unpredictability and competitiveness in the business environment, small, medium, and big companies that work in different industries adopt an agile approach to management [1] to navigate changing priorities, accelerate product delivery, meet customer expectations, and enhance productivity [2]. Agile teams’ productivity depends on solid coordination, cohesion, and communication, so multiple online platforms have been created to enable their workflow and productivity [3]. Our literature review identified a highly limited number of empirical and non-empirical papers about these platforms, with the most of them describing the usage of a particular platform and its benefits in terms of simpler workflow or better team coordination [4]. Unfortunately, how these platforms indeed impact the performance and effectiveness of agile teams remains mostly unknown. This study examined the impact of the use of online platforms on team performance and individual in-role performance in agile projects. We also investigated the role of teamwork quality and the servant leadership of the team leader in this relationship.
