After the completion of the basic general education program (after the grade), Russian students must choose one of two educational trajectories: to cjntinue their general secondary education (enroll in 10th grade) or to enter a vocational education program. What do Russian schoolchildren choose& Let us examine data from the last 15 years.
Although most ninth grade completers cjntinue their general secondary education, the share of these student decreeases with each passing year. Over the past 15 years, the share of school-children that goes onto Grades 10 to 11 after completing grade nine has decreased by nine percent (from 65,2 to 56,1 percent). This is a more than twofold decrease in absolute terms.
The competence of mathematical modelling is well conceptualized, thought a much-debated question is how to develop it in schools. International achievement test PISA consider mathematics achievements from the modelling perspective (formulating, employing and interpreting), and provides us with comprehensive data to analyze school factors in math results from the comparative perspective. The goal of our study was to estimate the effect of teaching practices on students’ achievements in different PISA mathematical processes while controlling prior achievements (TIMSS).
