HSE Researchers Compile Scientific Database for Studying Childrens Eating Habits
The database created at HSE University can serve as a foundation for studying children’s eating habits. This is outlined in the study ‘The Influence of Age, Gender, and Social-Role Factors on Children’s Compliance with Age-Based Nutritional Norms: An Experimental Study Using the Dish-I-Wish Web Application.’ The work has been carried out as part of the HSE Basic Research Programme and was presented at the XXVI April International Academic Conference named after Evgeny Yasin.

New Foresight Centre Study Identifies the Most Destructive Global Trends for Humankind
A team of researchers from the HSE International Research and Educational Foresight Centre has examined how global trends affect the quality of human life—from life expectancy to professional fulfilment. The findings of the study titled ‘Human Capital Transformation under the Influence of Global Trends’ were published in Foresight.

Scientists Develop Algorithm for Accurate Financial Time Series Forecasting
Researchers at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science benchmarked more than 200,000 model configurations for predicting financial asset prices and realised volatility, showing that performance can be improved by filtering out noise at specific frequencies in advance. This technique increased accuracy in 65% of cases. The authors also developed their own algorithm, which achieves accuracy comparable to that of the best models while requiring less computational power. The study has been published in Applied Soft Computing.

Ceteris Paribus Preferences: Prediction via Abduction

Ch. 2. P. 45–56.
Obiedkov S.

We present an approach to preference learning via ceteris paribus preferences (i.e., preferences that hold ``other things being equal'') over attribute subsets. We provide semantics for such preferences based on formal concept analysis and show that ceteris paribus preferences valid in a dataset correspond to implications valid in a certain formal context built from this dataset. Preferences computed from a training dataset can then be used to extend the preference relation to new objects based on the attributes they have, but this approach may require exponential time. However, to compute preferences over new objects induced by the preference theory behind the training dataset, it is not necessary to compute this theory explicitly: an abduction algorithm for Horn formulae represented by their characteristic models can be modified to obtain an algorithm for inducing preferences between a pair of new objects that runs in time polynomial in the size of the training dataset.

Parameterized ceteris paribus preferences over atomic conjunctions under conservative semantics

We consider a propositional language for describing parameterized ceteris paribus preferences over atomic conjunctions. Such preferences are only required to hold when the alternatives being compared agree on a specified subset of propositional variables. Regarding the expressivity of the language in question, we show that a parameterized preference statement is equivalent to a conjunction of ...

From preferences over objects to preferences over concepts

We present an approach to preference modeling and learning preferences from data based on formal concept analysis. We consider techniques to derive preferences over attribute subsets from preferences over objects, including ceteris paribus preferences. ...
