Implementation of Analytical Hierarchy Process for Developing Better Waste Collection System
Waste collection and management has been one of the significant challenges in developing economies. Identifying and examining the factor of better waste collection and management systems in these economies is crucial. This chapter primarily focuses on identifying and evaluating these key challenging factors of better waste collection and management in developing economies. It classifies the impediments as political, economic, sociocultural, technological, legal, and administrative. It ranks the barriers and sub-barriers based on their relevance and effect using a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP). According to the findings, the most significant impediments are economic, political, technical, socioeconomic, legal, administrative, and sociocultural barriers. The most crucial sub-barriers are political instability, a lack of economic incentives, a high-risk perception, low knowledge and awareness, restricted access to technology, and an inadequate legal framework. Findings suggest that political stability and will are required for developing nations to launch and sustain waste management initiatives.
