HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Ensuring Electromagnetic Compatibility on Mobile Objects by Predicting the Spectral Characteristics of Contact Radio Interference

This article discusses the spectral characteristics of contact radio interference to solve the problem of electromagnetic compatibility on mobile objects. The article presents the results of the development and description of an algorithm for estimating the spectrum of contact radio interference, allowing to predict the spectral characteristics of contact interference at different values of the frequency of the irradiating electromagnetic field and the distance to the transmitting antenna and to evaluate the electrical and magnetic component of the intensity of the resulting contact radio interference. The presented algorithm for predicting contact radio interference expands the possibilities of designing radio communication systems in the presence of a significant number of radio transmitting and receiving devices on mobile objects. The paper develops recommendations for the application of the results obtained to predict the levels of contact radio interference. The results of the studies of the mechanisms of formation of contact radio interference and the developed algorithm for their prediction are necessary to ensure the effective functioning of the radio equipment of mobile objects.
