This cultural hero was a military and political builder. Needed was a second cultural hero – Russian builder of spiritual meanings. The diversity of the Decembrist projects of the Republican government assumed in Russia has not yet been fully studied. The Decembrists did’t have a common understanding of how to build a new political regime after the coup d'état. And it's not just the differences between P. Pestel and N. Muravyov. M. Orlov and N. Turgenev had their own projects of republics. Pushkin reflected on the ideas of eternal peace in connection with the unification of mankind into a single family (Republic).
Collection of essays and articles concerning Pushkin and his time.
The author introduces a previously unknown source for the French epigraph to the early version (1820) of Alexander Pushkin’s “southern poem” The Prisoner of Caucasus. The epigraph taken from the French translation of Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe proves to be the earliest testimony to Pushkin’s interest in Scott’s novels which was shortly connected to his Byronic interests and poetical experiments in the early period of his southern exile.
