HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

'The Humanities Serve as a Conscience'
Maria Mizernaia studies Soviet literature and the history of book publishing. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, she discusses plans to publish a novel about besieged Leningrad, AI-provoked reflections on what it means to be human, and how novels can help satisfy our dopamine hunger.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Gamma ray spectrometers are devices designed to measure energy and intensity gamma quanta in various samples of substances or materials. They are used in many fields of science and techniques, including nuclear physics, medical diagnostics, radiochemical research and control of environmental safety. The design of a gamma-ray spectrometer and its principles are considered. type of work. The possibility of ...

A One-Step Synthesis of Dispersed Bismuth Orthogermanate Powder and its Performance for Alpha- and Gamma-Radiation Detection
Varvara O. Veselova, Gajtko O., Volodin V. et al., ChemistrySelect 2023 Vol. 8 No. 3 Article e202204590
Simple co-precipitation procedure was used to synthesize Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO) powder. The obtained powder was tested for radiation detection properties. Flash time have decreased by 50 % compared to a single crystal for both α- and γ-produced scintillation. Faster flash time allows to create radiation detectors with better time and space resolution, while use of BGO in powder ...

Effect of different organic additives on the shape, size and scintillation properties of Bi4Ge3O12 powders synthesized by the microwave-hydrothermal method
Varvara O. Veselova, Gajtko O., Volodin V. et al., Advanced Powder Technology 2021 Vol. 32 No. 1 P. 175–185
A route for production of fine Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO) powder is sought after to lower the cost of scintillation devices and make their shapes more versatile. A systematic study of highly dispersed BGO crystallization under the hydrothermal-microwave (HTMW) conditions was carried out in the present work. Anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants, chelating agents and polyols were used to modify ...

Физико-математическая модель узла сенсоров модуля контроля параметров потоков космического излучения
Kolyubin V., Kulagin V., L'vov S. A. et al., В кн.: Компьютерные измерительные технологии: Материалы I Международного симпозиума.: М.: ДМК Пресс, 2015. С. 8–11.
The physical-mathematical model of the sensors block of space radiation fluxes parameters monitoring module has been developed. The simulation of the sensors block output has been carried out using the series of the spectra representing space radiation spectra at different spaceship orbits in different phases of the solar activity cycle. The optimisation of the sensors ...
