Neural Network Maps as a Method for Constructing Mathematical Models
Scientists from HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod and the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Serbia, are jointly exploring the application of machine learning techniques and neural networks to the study of nonlinear dynamics. Natalya Stankevich, Leading Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Topological Methods in Dynamics of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, and Computer Science at HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod, spoke to the HSE News Service about this international project.

‘In the Age of Technology, It Is Interesting to Look into the Past and Think about What We Can Take from It
Polina Tabakova decided to apply for a Philology degree at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod because she grew up in Mari El and did not want to move far away from the Russian forests. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about the genre of the campus novel, the existential drama of Kolobok, and a blackout version of Eugene Onegin.

HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

Деепричастные клаузы, неканонические с точки зрения классической грамматики

С. 48–55.
Glazunov E., Zevakhina N.

The paper discusses the findings of the corpus study conducted on the basis of the Main corpus of the Russian National Corpus. This study is viewed as a continuation of the experimental study reported in Puzhaeva (2016), Puzhaeva and Zevakhina (2018). The study confirmed the following experimentally established fact: preposed converbial clauses are significantly more typical of sentences with non-canonical control than postposed converbial clauses. Moreover, the amount of sentences with non-canonical control has significantly increased from the 18th century on.

Idioms, NP position, and control: Evidence from Russian
Rudnev P., Shikunova Alexandra, Типология морфосинтаксических параметров 2022 Vol. 5 No. 1 P. 91–106
This paper challenges the legitimacy of the idiom diagnostic, which has long seen employed in syntactic argumentation to distinguish movement from base generation. In response to [Burukina 2020], who reanalyses several Russian control predicates in terms of ECM (exceptional case marking) based on the idiom test, we question the necessity of the alternative analysis. We provide data from ...

The problem of an aesthetic ideal in the aspect of corporeality and corpulence is investigated in the history of art, fashion history, fiction, and now - the uncounted number of beauty-blogs, etc. The author tries to consider it in an applied aspect - female "plumpness" and "subtility" which were represented either as fine, or as ...

Non-canonical control in Russian converbial clauses
Жукова С. Ю., Zevakhina N., Slioussar N. et al., Russian linguistics 2020 Vol. 44 No. 2 P. 129–143
It has been acknowledged that the null subject of a converbial clause in Russian is canonically controlled by the Nominative subject of a main clause (Nominative subject control). Non-Nominative control has been considered ungrammatical. On the basis of two experiments (acceptability rating and speeded grammaticality judgement tasks) the paper shows that the non-Nominative control (by ...

Polinsky M., Левонтина И. Б., Диалог. Компьютерная лингвистика и интеллектуальные технологии 2019 № 18 С. 361–373
Russian has an impressive set of psych-verbs with the general meaning of causing extreme irritation and exhausting one’s patience, which we will henceforth refer to as EXASPERATE-verbs: достать;  задолбать, заколебать, замучить, бесить, etc. With these predicates, the experiencer is in the accusative, and the non-salient, inanimate or abstract causer of irritation can be expressed by a noun phrase ...

The paper treats several issues in the syntax of Khinalug, an East Caucasian language of Northern Azerbaijan, presenting some results of the author’s ongoing research of Khinalug syntax.
