Непьющие люди в «пьющем» обществе: из опыта биографического интервью
Introduction. Since the climatic diversity characteristic of the territory of Russia differentiates the propensity of the population to drink alcohol, the relevance of the research topic is related to the inadequacy of the consideration of the climatic factor in the construction of a system of preventing increase in alcohol abuse at the regional level. The purpose of the research is to determine the potential of models of alcoholism prevention in correcting alcohol-related indicators, taking into account the climatic conditions of the regions. Materials and Methods. The research applied the method of qualitative content analysis of regional official documents pertaining to prohibitionist alcohol policies. Results. Similar models of prevention characteristic of regions grouped according to climatic characteristics and the number of registered alcohol-addicted people were identified as well as models characteristic of regions with different climatic conditions. Regions with warm and cold climates and low rates of registered alcohol-addicted people are characterized by the ideological, resource, integrated and information models as well as by the indirect intervention model. Regions with high overall rates of alcoholism and alcoholic psychosis, regardless of climatic conditions, are characterized by the formal and unstable models. It is proved that the conditionality of the exposure of the population to alcohol by the climatic conditions of the region can be corrected by preventive practices related to the accumulation of ideological, social and cultural capital, information and additional restrictive alcohol policy. Discussion and Conclusions. Leveling the alcoholism rates in regions with a cold climate in relation to the regions with a warm climate and low alcohol addiction indicators depends on the chosen strategy of alcoholism prevention. The practical significance of the study consists in the assumption that the improvement of regional practices of preventing increase in alcohol abuse in Russia needs to be made taking into account the climatic factor: the cooler the climate, the more thorough, comprehensive and resource-oriented prevention should be.
