Immersion in Second Language Environment Influences Bilinguals Perception of Emotions
Researchers at the Cognitive Health and Intelligence Centre at the HSE Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have discovered how bilingual individuals process emotional words in their native (first) and non-native (second) languages. It was found that the link between word meaning and bodily sensations is weaker in a second language than in a first language. However, the more a person is immersed in a language environment, the smaller this difference becomes. The article has been published in Language, Cognition and Neuroscience.

The article delivers an analysis of the image of classical German philosophy in Nelly Motroshilova’s works on the history of philosophy. It is shown that Motroshilov’s interpretation of German idealism is polemically directed against the stereotypical notion of its compensatory nature. According to Motroshilova, the doctrine of pure reason, which acts as the “theoretical outline” of ...

The concept of political or civil death first emerged in Russian legislation during the Petrine era, with similar punitive practices already present in the 17th century. However, the legal nature and procedure of political death remained unclear until the mid-18th century. The topic of this article is the pair of concepts “enjoyment-suffering”, which, as linguistic intuition shows, correlates with a large quantity of lexemes: enjoyment is synonymous with pleasure, bliss; while suffering is synonymous with pain, torment, passion. Enjoyment-suffering is at times antithetical, and at other times mutually complementary, creating unexpected combinations. The fundamental hypothesis of this article is that ...
