How to Assess Students Knowledge in the Age of AI
A researcher at HSE University has proposed a flowchart to help lecturers decide how to assess students who use artificial intelligence. It shows where the use of AI should be restricted and where it can be incorporated into the learning process. The article has been published in IT Professional.

‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Апробирование методики для определения реологических характеристик сверхпластичных материалов

С. 192–197.
Zakhariev I., Aksenov S. A., Демин Д. О.

The paper presents a simple technique for the characterization of materials superplasticity by free bulging tests, which is based on inverse analysis. The main idea of this technique is a semianalytical solution of the direct problem instead of finite element
simulation which allows one to reduce the calculation time significantly. Presented method use experimental time-thickness and time-dome height of the workpiece dependancies as initial experimental data. Presented method has been applied for AZ31 magnesium alloy at 520. Received properties have been veracity via simulation by finite element method. Obtained time-height relations were comparison with the data presented in the literature.

Compact computer controlled biaxial tensile device for low-temperature transport measurements of layered materials
Zaitsev-Zotov S., Review of Scientific Instruments 2024 Vol. 95 No. 6 Article 063905
A biaxial tensile device for the transport study of layered materials is described. The device is mounted on the standard 24 pin zero force connector and can be moved between various setups. The compact design of the device makes it suitable for a wide range of studies. In our case, it is placed inside a ...

Accurate determination of uniaxial flow behaviour of superplastic materials
Aksenov S. A., Mikolaenko V., European Journal of Mechanics, A/Solids 2025 Vol. 109 Article 105469
The design of superplastic forming technologies requires accurate description of material flow behaviour. Furthermore, as the flow curves reflect the deformation mechanisms and microstructure evolution of a material, their accurate determination is an important aspect of material science. The standard experimental method for determining superplastic flow curves is the tensile test, which encounters a significant ...

Determination of biaxial stress–strain curves for superplastic materials by means of bulge forming tests at constant stress
Aksenov S. A., Sorgente D., CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology 2020 No. 31 P. 618–627
As the characterization of superplastic materials requires elevated temperatures and strain rate control, standard bulge testing procedure with optical measuring systems is not feasible for the determination of biaxial stress–strain curves. Standard superplastic bulge forming tests performed at constant pressure can be used for the identification of material constants or formability evaluation, but they are not ...

The Effect of Material Properties on the Accuracy of Superplastic Tensile Test
Aksenov S. A., Mikolaenko V., Metals 2020 Vol. 10 No. 10 Article 1353
Tensile testing is widely used for the mechanical characterization of materials subjected to superplastic deformation. At the same time, it is known that the obtained flow data are affected by specimen geometry. Thus, they characterize the specimen rather than the material. This work provides the numerical analysis aimed to study how the material flow behavior ...

The effect of finite element type on the results of superplastic forming simulation
Zakhariev I., Procedia Manufacturing 2019 Vol. 37 P. 85–90
Superplastic Forming is an industrial process to produce thin-walled products of complex shape. At the same time this process allows one to obtain the products with close to uniform thickness distribution. The process exploits the abilities of some polycrystalline materials to large elongations before failure. The best formability can be achieved only under very specific ...

Characterization of stress-strain behavior of superplastic titanium alloy by free bulging tests with pressure jumps
Aksenov S. A., Sorgente D., Defect and Diffusion Forum 2018 Vol. 385 P. 443–448
The work is dedicated to determination of stress-strain behavior of Ti6Al4V alloy deformed in conditions of biaxial tension provided by free bulging testing. The dome height during each test was continuously measured and recorded using a magnetostrictive position transducer. All the tests were performed using stepped pressure regime with jump pressure changing between two values ...

Jarrar F., Sorgente D., Aksenov S. A. et al., Materials Science Forum 2018 Vol. 941 P. 2343–2348
Superplastic forming has already been proven as a practical solution for manufacturing lightweight components in niche applications such as the aerospace and luxury cars industries. The demand to produce such components will continue with the limited nature of the energy resources available today. Therefore, superplastic materials are expected to stay as potential candidates in such ...

Investigation of stress-strain behavior of a sheet material using free bulging test
Aksenov S. A., Sorgente D., Procedia Engineering 2017 Vol. 207 P. 1892–1897
In this work, a new experimental-numerical technique is developed in order to investigate the constitutive behaviour of a sheet material in conditions of superplastic forming. The principal feature of this technique is that unlike classical tensile testing it allows one to obtain stress-strain curves for a material formed in biaxial tension conditions produced by free ...

Investigation on the thickness distribution of highly customized titanium biomedical implants manufactured by superplastic forming
Sorgente D., Palumbo G., Piccininni A. et al., CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology 2018 No. 20 P. 29–35
Mechanical performances of titanium biomedical implants manufactured by superplastic forming are strongly related to the process parameters: the thickness distribution along the formed sheet has a key role in the evaluation of post-forming characteristics of the prosthesis. In this work, a finite element model able to reliably predict the thickness distribution after the superplastic forming ...

In this study, the rheological characteristics of a titanium alloy have been obtained by multi-dome bulging test. Free bulging process is an experimental technique that can be used to characterize material in conditions of biaxial tension during superplastic, as well as conventional, hot forming. Free bulging process is an experimental technique which can be used to characterize a sheet material in conditions of biaxial tension during hot forming. Analytical and semi-analytical models of this process are usually based on the hypothesis offering certain relations between the geometrical characteristics of a bulge during forming. The paper presents an original relation ...
