At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

Approaches to the Detection of Deepfake in the Financial Organization’s Activities

Ch. 1. P. 3–7.
Belov A. V., Fedotov G.

In recent years, significant progress has been observed as content generated using AI technologies. In addition, tools regularly appear with which scammers can create a realistic fake content. Deepfake detection methods are currently actively used in the activities of financial organizations. With their help, a departments within financial organizations responsible for IT Security identify cases of fraud, protect customers and ensure the safety of digital transactions. To generate deepfake, multimodal models are used to form fake dynamic video images with sound. The work investigates generative models in the Face Synthesis task, as well as methods for detecting deepfakes created using models of this class. The analysis of the datasets used to detect deepfakes is given. Recent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of these approaches in controlled settings

Optimization of List-Based Reed-Solomon Decoding via Deep Learning
Portnoy S., Efremov A., Voloshin A., , in: 2026 Systems of Signal Synchronization, Generating and Processing in Telecommunications (SYNCHROINFO).: Petrozavodsk: IEEE, 2026. P. 1–4.
This paper presents a deep learning-based optimization of a list-decoding algorithm for a concatenated Hamming-Reed-Solomon code transmitted over an AWGN channel with BPSK modulation. The proposed method reformulates early termination of the erasure-pattern list as a weighted regression problem, addressing class imbalance through an asymmetric Weighted Mean Squared Error (WMSE) loss function that penalizes index ...

Онтологический разрыв: когда Другой — алгоритм
Ugleva A. V., Социологическое обозрение 2026 Т. 25 № 3 С. 268–293
This article undertakes a socio-philosophical analysis of a situation in which the place of the Other within the structure of subjective experience is occupied by an algorithmic agent – an entity that simulates understanding yet remains devoid of genuine subjectivity. To investigate this configuration, the author turns to psychiatric practice as a representative case study: ...

Самарин А. В., Торопов А. Г., Савельев А. Г. et al., Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis 2024 Vol. 34 No. 4 P. 1044–1052
This paper presents a study aimed at improving the detection quality of small-sized microorganisms under challenging microscopic conditions through the application of a lightweight combined image preprocessing model. We focused on the task of detecting diplococci in images obtained through dynamic sample microscopy. The proposed approach employs predefined filters for image preprocessing, combined with the ...

Aleksei Samarin, Nazarenko A., Kotenko E. et al., / Series arXiv "math". 2025. No. 2511.20141.
This paper presents a novel approach to neural network compression that addresses redundancy at both the filter and architectural levels through a unified framework grounded in information flow analysis. Building on the concept of tensor flow divergence, which quantifies how information is transformed across network layers, we develop a two-stage optimization process. The first stage ...

Efficient Pruning Optimization for Trainable Descriptor-Based Facade Signboard Classification
Aleksei Samarin, Aleksei Toropov, Nazarenko A. et al., , in: Proceedings of FRUCT'39, Helsinki, Finland, 28-30 April 2026. Issue 1 (Full Papers)Vol. 39.: Helsinki: FRUCT Oy, 2026. P. 253–261.
Commercial facade service classification from streetlevel imagery benefits from multi-branch pipelines that fuse global facade appearance with signboard-centric cues; however, this design increases inference cost and hinders large-scale deployment. We study pruning for a multi-branch facade recognition pipeline with a trainable signboard descriptor and compare unstructured magnitude pruning with structured baselines, including channel pruning and ...

This study investigates the integration of attention mechanisms within deep learning architectures, specifically focusing on the segmentation of diplococci microorganisms in microscopy images. We introduce novel modifications to attention blocks, tailored to address challenges inherent to microscopy imaging, such as blurred boundaries and indistinct microorganism features. Our experimental results demonstrate significant performance improvements compared to ...

Aleksei Samarin, Nazarenko A., Kotenko E. et al., Machine Learning and Knowledge Extraction 2026 Vol. 8 No. 8 P. 1–26
This paper presents a novel method for pruning deep neural networks based on the concept of flow, derived from the continuous modeling of signal propagation across layers. We derive flow functions for fully connected, convolutional, and self-attention architectures, and we propose a new iterative pruning algorithm, Iterative Flow-Aware Pruning (IFAP), that leverages these measures to ...
