Методика оценки влияния интероцептивных сигналов на возбудимость моторной коры
It is known that the motor cortex exhibits increased excitability during the systolic phase of the cardiac cycle (Al et al., 2023). Previous studies have shown that self-observation can enhance interoceptive sensitivity (Ainley et al., 2012). We hypothesized that visual stimuli enhancing bodily awareness could influence the relationship between the phase of the cardiac cycle and cortical excitability. The aim of the present study was to develop an experimental methodology for investigating the role of interoceptive sensitivity, enhanced through visual self-observation, in modulating cortical excitability mediated by the phase of the cardiac cycle. Thus, a methodology was developed involving the random presentation of participants' own photographs alongside those of others. Concurrently, transcranial magnetic stimulation of the motor cortex was applied with delays of 0, 250, and 500 ms relative to the R-peak of the ECG. Motor excitability was assessed using electromyography. The methodology was tested on three volunteers. The obtained data showed a tendency toward a decrease in motor-evoked potentials (MEP) amplitude when viewing one's own photographs compared to those of others, at a delay of 250 ms. These results suggest that focusing on one’s own image enhances the inhibition of corticospinal excitability
