The collection also ccontains a translation of Pitorim Sorokin`s book "Society, Culture and Personality", as well as several articles concerning his sociological heritage.
The article is about the newest tendencies in sociological studies of Jeffrey Alexander, namely the "Strong program" in cultural sociology. The purpose of this program is to redefine the sociological understanding of meaning in relation to social action as well as to rework both meaning and social action as categories for social research in general. This implies that, for Alexander, culture is a structure analytically different and autonomous from society, which is, in turn, understood as the internal environment of social action. This approach provides the more deeply comprehending of social, political and economic spheres of society. Conceptions of iconic consciousness and iconic experience do describe how cultural structures operate in social interactions, create motivations of human actions by perception of sings and symbols in every-day life. These conceptions are the part of realization of methodological principles of "Strong program" in explanation of social actions in traditional and modern societies.
