Optimization, Simulation, and Control
Optimization, simulation and control are very powerful tools in engineering and mathematics, and play an increasingly important role. Because of their various real-world applications in industries such as finance, economics, and telecommunications, research in these fields is accelerating at a rapid pace, and there have been major algorithmic and theoretical developments in these fields in the last decade.
This volume brings together the latest developments in these areas of research and presents applications of these results to a wide range of real-world problems.

The importance of patient wait-time management and predictability can hardly be overestimated: For most hospitals, it is the patient queues that drive and define every bit of clinical workflow. The objective of this work was to study the predictability of patient wait time and identify its most influential predictors.
To solve this problem, we developed a comprehensive list of 25 wait-related parameters, suggested in earlier work and observed in our own experiments. All parameters were chosen as derivable from a typical Hospital Information System dataset. The parameters were fed into several time-predicting models, and the best parameter subsets, discovered through exhaustive model search, were applied to a large sample of actual patient wait data.
We were able to discover the most efficient wait-time prediction factors and models, such as the line-size models introduced in this work. Moreover, these models proved to be equally accurate and computationally efficient. Finally, the selected models were implemented in our patient waiting areas, displaying predicted wait times on the monitors located at the front desks. The limitations of these models are also discussed.
Optimal regression models based on wait-line sizes can provide accurate and efficient predictions for patient wait time.

New data on the relative elasticity of soft materials for linings for dentures and obturators with rigid inserts was obtained. The problems of improving the quality of dental prosthetic rehabilitation of oncological patients with acquired defects of the upper jaw were discussed.
The volume is dedicated to Stephen Smale on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Besides his startling 1960 result of the proof of the Poincaré conjecture for all dimensions greater than or equal to five, Smale’s ground breaking contributions in various fields in Mathematics have marked the second part of the 20th century and beyond. Stephen Smale has done pioneering work in differential topology, global analysis, dynamical systems, nonlinear functional analysis, numerical analysis, theory of computation and machine learning as well as applications in the physical and biological sciences and economics. In sum, Stephen Smale has manifestly broken the barriers among the different fields of mathematics and dispelled some remaining prejudices. He is indeed a universal mathematician. Smale has been honored with several prizes and honorary degrees including, among others, the Fields Medal(1966), The Veblen Prize (1966), the National Medal of Science (1996) and theWolf Prize (2006/2007).
We investigate the dynamics of a molecular evolution model related to the mutator gene phenomenon. Here mutation in one gene drastically changes the properties of the whole genome. We investigated the Crow-Kimura version of the model, which can be mapped into a Hamilton-Jacobi equation. For the symmetric fitness landscape, we calculated the dynamics of the maximum of the total population distribution. We found two phases in the dynamics: a simple one when the maximum of distribution moves along a characteristics, and more involved one when the maximum jumps to another characteristic at some turnout point T.
The basic processes influencing the formation of modern concept of controlling are considered. Fundamental restrictions of the controlling concept are described. The system concept of controlling is argued as the scientific basis of controlling in circumstances of today.
We consider certain spaces of functions on the circle, which naturally appear in harmonic analysis, and superposition operators on these spaces. We study the following question: which functions have the property that each their superposition with a homeomorphism of the circle belongs to a given space? We also study the multidimensional case.
We consider the spaces of functions on the m-dimensional torus, whose Fourier transform is p -summable. We obtain estimates for the norms of the exponential functions deformed by a C1 -smooth phase. The results generalize to the multidimensional case the one-dimensional results obtained by the author earlier in “Quantitative estimates in the Beurling—Helson theorem”, Sbornik: Mathematics, 201:12 (2010), 1811 – 1836.

One of the most important indicators of company's success is the increase of its value. The article investigates traditional methods of company's value assessment and the evidence that the application of these methods is incorrect in the new stage of economy. So it is necessary to create a new method of valuation based on the new main sources of company's success that is its intellectual capital.
