The mythological history of the ancient Thebes –the largest military-political and intellectual center of Boeotia –is reflected in the ancient Greek trage-dies of the 5th centuryBC. This century was the “golden age” of Athens –the cen-tury when the theater became a special form of education, and playwrights got the right to instruct the townspeople in an original art form and express their pedagog-ical position, including in relation to Thebes, often in conflict with Athens. Thanks to the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, mythological stories about the founder of Thebes Cadmus, as well as the difficult life path of the Theban king Oedipus and the fate of his family, gained the greatest popularity.Numerous ex-amples of projections of the educational space of the ancient Thebes are also pre-sent in material culture, inpreserved monuments, places of worship and artifacts.
