The article is devoted to the analsis of the research and academic achievements of A.B. Davidson during six decased of his academic career.
The chapter analyses the effect of Gorbachev's 'perestroika' on the process af anti–apartheid struggle in South Africa. The author argues that Gorbacher's policy was one of the most important factors which made the negotiated settlement in South africa possible, as reognised by many political actors in South Africa and beyond.
The author analyses peace-making activity of Nelson Mnadela, a symbolic and charismatic leader of the struggoe against aparthied in South Africa and the first black president of that country. On the basis of Mandela's two memoirs, written at different periods of his life and in different circumstances, the author comes to the conclusion that Mandela's peace-making was not a result of his peace-loving nature, but rather a well thought–out political tactics, which changed, depending on the circumstances.
