Sociologists: Conservative Consumers Dominate Russian Middle Class
The Russian middle class cannot be regarded as a homogeneous and uniformly stable social group. Similar income levels often mask significant differences in financial strategies, lifestyles, and levels of economic security. This is the conclusion reached by sociologists at HSE University. The study has been published in Voprosy Ekonomiki.

Doctoral Student at HSE University Reveals Hidden Layout of Ancient Parion
İdil Malgil, a researcher at HSE University, conducted a UAV-based LiDAR survey of the ancient Roman city of Parion in present-day Turkey. The high density of the scans allowed the team to detect subtle terrain features concealed beneath the ground and vegetation. The survey revealed traces of entire neighbourhoods, terraced structures, and walls that had remained invisible during routine excavations and could not be identified through aerial photography. The findings have been published in Ancient Civilizations from Scythia to Siberia.

Surface Plasmon Polariton Photoluminescence Enhancement of Single InP Nanowires with InAsP Quantum Wells

Physica Status Solidi - Rapid Research Letters. 2025. Vol. 19. No. 4. Article 2400296.
Shugabaev T., Gridchin V., Ivan A. Melnichenko, Bulkin P., Абрамов A., Kuznetsov A., Maksimova A., Novikov I., Khrebtov A., Ubyivovk Y., Kotlyar K., Natalia V. Kryzhanovskaya, Reznik R., Cirlin G.

A significant (up to 4 times) photoluminescence enhancement of single InP/InAsP/InP nanowires transferred onto a silicon oxide-covered silver layer on silicon substrate with a metal surface roughness level of less than 1 nm and a dielectric thickness of 5 nm has been demonstrated. This phenomenon is explained by the interaction of electron–hole pairs in the semiconductor with surface plasmon polaritons. The photoluminescence kinetics and results of modeling confirm the indicated enhancement mechanism.

Wave dynamics within the Whitham-Ostrovsky equation
Flamarion M. V., Pelinovsky E., Nonlinear Dynamics 2026 Vol. 114 Article 784
In this article, we investigate wave packet and solitary wave dynamics in the Whitham–Ostrovsky (WO) equation. By means of a multiple-scales expansion, we formally derive a nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation governing the envelope evolution. The corresponding modulational stability diagram is then obtained using the Lighthill criterion. We show that sufficiently large values of the low-frequency dispersive term render ...

The critical role of shear antiphase boundaries in τ-Mn(Al,Ga) rapidly quenched alloy
Fortuna A. S., A.I. Kartsev, Gorshenkov M. V. et al., Journal of Alloys and Compounds 2026 Vol. 1070 Article 188711
The τ-phase in Mn-Al-Ga alloys is a promising candidate for rare-earth-free permanent magnets. This study re-veals that the τ(γ₂)-phase in rapidly quenched Mn55Al36Ga9 ribbons contains a high density of dislocations, which form antiphase boundaries (APBs). Using transmission electron microscopy and density functional theory, we demonstrate that Mn atoms at these APBs couple antiferromagnetically. This antiferromagnetic interaction is identified ...

Combined Experimental and Ab Initio Study of Sc Doping in MgB2: Decoupling Electronic and Microstructural Effects on Superconductivity
Dikhtievskaya K., Argunov E., Alexey I. Kartsev et al., The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters 2026 Vol. 17 No. 17 P. 4999–5004
In this study we revealed the effect of scandium doping on the electronic and superconducting properties of the MgB2 compound. Calculations demonstrate that Sc substitutes for Mg atoms, acting as an electron donor. Mg substitution diminishes the density of states in the σ-band and attenuates the electron–phonon coupling, thereby elucidating the reduction in critical temperature. Simultaneously, ...
