In the article, the author examines the concept of "civilization" from the point of view of its relationship with the concept of "urban civilization", puts forward and substantiates a hypothesis about the existence of similar conditions for the development of urban civilization in Russia in the 20-30s of the twentieth century and its current state. Drawing such an analogy, the author makes a number of specific proposals for the use of the Soviet experience of urbanization in solving today's urban problems. He draws attention to typical errors in urbanization processes and compares them with modern conditions in the socio-economic transformation of cities.
