"Латинская церковь в особом режиме": взгляд с Востока и с Запада (конференция "Папство и Монгольские государства в XIII и XIV столетиях", 18-20 июля 2023 г., Вупперталь - Пекин)
The publication represents a brief overview of the scholarly conference held in July 2023 in a mixed online-remote format at the universities of Wuppertal (Bergische Universität Wuppertal) and Beijing (Běijīng Dàxué). The main subject of the conference was the relationship between the Papacy and various fragments of the Mongol Empire that emerged in the vast territories of Eurasia in the mid-XIIIth – mid-XIVth centuries. The conference sections were attended by employees of leading scientific schools of Western Europe (Università di Verona, Università di Bologna, Sapienza Università di Roma, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Università di Udine, etc.), as well as professors and members of the important educational and academic institutions in China and Japan (Academy of Public Sciences of the People's Republic of China / Zhōngguó Shèhuì Kēxuéyuàn, Fudan University / Fùdàn Dàxué, Nankai University / Nánkāi Dàxué, Renmin University of China / Zhōngguó Rénmín Dàxué, University of Tokyo, etc.). Much attention during the conference was paid to the study and possible comprehensive publication of sources on the history of papal-Mongolian relations, in particular the corpus of the so-called “Mongolian letters” deposited in the archives of Holy See during the period of reforms of the Apostolic Chancery in the first half of the XIVth century. A significant number of reports was also devoted to the development and results of the missionary activities of the Catholic Church in the Far East.
