Seeded RAFT Polymerization of Styrene for the Synthesis of Stable Dispersions of Amphiphilic Block Copolymers and Composite Nanoparticles

Polymer Science - Series B. 2022. Vol. 64. No. 2. P. 124–136.
Serkhacheva N. S., Ryzhikov K. A., Prokopov N., Plutalova A., Bol’shakova A. V., E. V. Chernikova

The regularities of the seeded polymerization of styrene in an aqueous-alcoholic medium in the presence of the seed particles of the triblock copolymer of acrylic acid and butyl acrylate, containing the trithiocarbonate group within the chain and acting as a reversible chain transfer agent, were studied for the first time. The influence of the composition of the dispersion medium and of the concentrations of components on the polymerization kinetics, molecular weight characteristics of the reaction products, and size distribution of the resultant particles was evaluated. Immobilization of the TiO2 nanoparticles on the polymeric particles of the block copolymers in the course of the seeded polymerization of styrene was carried out. Stable suspensions of the hybrid particles with an average diameter of 60 to 130 nm, comprising TiO2 and the block copolymer of acrylic acid, butyl acrylate, and styrene, were obtained.

When universal machine learning models fail in capacitance prediction for carbon-based supercapacitors: Leakage-aware validation and electrolyte screening
Makarov D. M., Kalikin N., Fashchevsky K. A. et al., Electrochimica Acta 2026 Vol. 579 Article 150159
Machine learning (ML) has become a powerful tool for accelerating the development of carbon-based supercapacitors; however, most published models assume that a single predictive framework can describe both conventional porous carbons and hybrid carbon electrodes. Here, we test this assumption using a comprehensive benchmark dataset and an extended literature-curated dataset enriched with synthesis- and electrolyte-related descriptors. Three ML algorithms ...

Zhukov A., Chen F., Zeng Y. et al., Nanoscale 2026 Vol. 18 No. 36 P. 19223–19253
Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals have emerged as promising materials for next-generation light-emitting diodes (LEDs) owing to their solution processability, tunable emission wavelengths, narrow emission linewidths, and high photoluminescence quantum yields. Among them, anisotropic nanocrystals, including one-dimensional nanorods (NRs) and two-dimensional nanoplatelets (NPLs), offer additional opportunities for controlling transition dipole moment orientation and light out-coupling efficiency. These ...

Мальцева В. Е., Ananyev I., Milevskii N. et al., Molecular Systems Design and Engineering 2026 Vol. 11 No. 7 P. 691–704
The use of hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as extractants for metal ion separation is largely due to the ease of their preparation and the possibility of modifying them depending on the composition of the metal mixture to be separated. However, the most common approach to DES modification involves the replacement of the extractant, while ...

Nifantiev I., Komarov P., Ovchinnikova V. et al., Polymers 2020 Vol. 12 P. 2273
Homogeneity of copolymers is a general problem of catalytic coordination polymerization. In ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters, the rational design of the catalyst is generally applied to solve this problem by the equalization of the reactivities of comonomers— however, it often leads to a reduction of catalytic activity. In the present paper, we studied the catalytic behavior of BnOH-activated ...
