HSE Economists Use Search Queries to Forecast Birth Rates
Researchers from the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences have shown that the accuracy of birth rate forecasts for Russia can be improved by almost 50% by incorporating the dynamics of online search queries related to pregnancy and childbirth into forecasting models. In the best-performing models, the forecasting error fell from 4.6% to 3.2%. The findings have been published in Populations and Economics.

HSE Researchers Discover Who Eats Out in Russia-And Why
Around one-third of Russians (31.3%) rarely eat out or buy ready-made meals. The core group of active consumers—those who eat out or purchase prepared food almost every day or several times a week—accounts for only about 9% of the population. These are the findings of a study conducted by the HSE Institute for Social Policy. According to the researchers eating out is no longer a marker of high social status in Russia.

Психометрические характеристики опросника «Индивидуальное выполнение работы»

In the current study we examinedpsychometric properties of the “Individual work performance” questionnaire developed by L.Koopmans et al. Theconstruct ofindividual work performance characterizesbehaviorsof employees, which correspond to the organization's goals,whichreflect their“goodwill” as well asself-control towardswork activities. Theindividual work performance involvesthree forms of behavior: task performance characterizes the ability to plantime and to prioritize, contextual performance reflects the desire to perform various and extra tasks, initiativeness, and aspiration for professional enhancement;counterproductive behavior reflects the tendency to discuss problems arising at work with colleagues and other people, as well as tendency to focus on the negative aspects of work. The original questionnaire aimedto obtain subjective evaluations of thesebehaviors. Therefore, it allowed, firstly, to describe the employees’ behavior by means of specific characteristics, and secondly, to compare those characteristics among employees from different professional fields. The current study involved 286 participantsaged 20 to 65 years (M= 35.04), 48% men. External validity of the questionnaire was examinedwith theUtrecht work engagement scale and the questionnaire of professional motivation. The structure of the questionnaire was found to be similar to the original one. In particular, three factors (scales) emerged: task performance, contextual performance, and counterproductive behavior. The closest associations were found between the features of individual work performance and the characteristics of autonomous professional motivation. The scales of the questionnaire demonstrated high reliability scores. Results of the study enable usage of the individual work performance questionnaire as a tool for the examination of the behavioral characteristics in the workplace, including comparison of representatives of different professions.
