HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

Wave dynamics within the Whitham-Ostrovsky equation
Flamarion M. V., Pelinovsky E., Nonlinear Dynamics 2026 Vol. 114 Article 784
In this article, we investigate wave packet and solitary wave dynamics in the Whitham–Ostrovsky (WO) equation. By means of a multiple-scales expansion, we formally derive a nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation governing the envelope evolution. The corresponding modulational stability diagram is then obtained using the Lighthill criterion. We show that sufficiently large values of the low-frequency dispersive term render ...

On structural stability of 3-diffeomorphisms with the Smale solenoid attractor–repeller dynamics
Medvedev T. V., Pochinka O., Chaos 2026 Vol. 36 No. 6 Article 063107
We consider 3-diffeomorphisms with source–sink dynamics where Smale solenoids play the role of the source and the sink (NSSS-diffeomorphisms). It is known that such diffeomorphisms exist only on lens spaces. On the 3-sphere, every NSSS-diffeomorphism is associated with an exchangeable braid. An exchangeable braid with the strand number n was constructed for each n   3 in such a way ...

A model exhibiting all possible types of hyperbolic chaos on the 2-torus
Kazakov A., Mints D., Petrova I. et al., Chaos 2026 Vol. 36 No. 6 Article 063112
We study hyperbolic chaotic dynamics for maps of a two-dimensional torus. We introduce a two-parameter family of diffeomorphisms which, as we show, demonstrates all types of hyperbolic chaotic dynamics that can appear in the two-dimensional case. In addition, we describe all the bifurcations responsible for the transitions between these chaotic regimes. ...

Hazarika A. P., Das A., Das S. K. et al., Physica B: Condensed Matter 2026 Vol. 738 Article 418803
Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus, LG-SiO2), horsetail (Equisetum debile, SG-SiO2), and cassava leaves (Manihot esculenta, CL-SiO2) were used to green-synthesize silica (SiO2) nanoparticles (NPs). While LG-SiO2 and SG-SiO2 had strong (101) peaks and a large 22° amorphous peak, XRD of CL-SiO2 verified crystallinity. LG-SiO2 (agglomerated porous), SG-SiO2 (rectangular-cube agglomerates), and CL-SiO2 (flake agglomerates) had different morphologies. The TEM image of LG-SiO2 revealed agglomerated ...

Об эквивалентности по надстройке декартовых произведений регулярных гомеоморфизмов с гомеоморфизмами Данжуа
Nozdrinova E., Pochinka O., Shmukler V.,

Signatures of Reconnection and a Split Heliospheric Tail in High-energy Energetic Neutral Atoms
Kornbleuth M., Opher M., Drake J. F. et al., Astrophysical Journal 2026 Vol. 1004 No. 1 Article 1
The shape of the heliosphere, regarded as comet-like since the 1960s, has recently been the subject of intense debate in the last decade. There is disagreement as to whether the heliospheric tail extends to ∼10,000 au in a comet-like shape or if it is short (∼400 au) with a split. Energetic neutral atom (ENA) maps from ...

Two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride-ferrofluid hybrids enable efficient magnetic cooling
Kartsev A., Nishant T., Saswata G. et al., Journal of Materials Chemistry C 2026 Article -
Overheating remains a critical limitation in high-performance electronic and computing systems, necessitating the development of efficient thermal management fluids. In this work, a magnetically responsive hybrid ferrofluid was developed by incorporating two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride (2D-hBN) nanosheets into a Mn–Zn–ferrite-based ferrofluid. The hybrid system retains magnetic responsiveness while leveraging the high in-plane thermal conductivity and chemical stability of 2D-hBN nanosheets. ...

The critical role of shear antiphase boundaries in τ-Mn(Al,Ga) rapidly quenched alloy
Fortuna A. S., A.I. Kartsev, Gorshenkov M. V. et al., Journal of Alloys and Compounds 2026 Vol. 1070 Article 188711
The τ-phase in Mn-Al-Ga alloys is a promising candidate for rare-earth-free permanent magnets. This study re-veals that the τ(γ₂)-phase in rapidly quenched Mn55Al36Ga9 ribbons contains a high density of dislocations, which form antiphase boundaries (APBs). Using transmission electron microscopy and density functional theory, we demonstrate that Mn atoms at these APBs couple antiferromagnetically. This antiferromagnetic interaction is identified ...

Combined Experimental and Ab Initio Study of Sc Doping in MgB2: Decoupling Electronic and Microstructural Effects on Superconductivity
Dikhtievskaya K., Argunov E., Kartsev A. et al., The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters 2026 Vol. 17 No. 17 P. 4999–5004
In this study we revealed the effect of scandium doping on the electronic and superconducting properties of the MgB2 compound. Calculations demonstrate that Sc substitutes for Mg atoms, acting as an electron donor. Mg substitution diminishes the density of states in the σ-band and attenuates the electron–phonon coupling, thereby elucidating the reduction in critical temperature. Simultaneously, ...

Two ways to generalize Gerstner waves in the theory of waves in deep water
A. A. Abrashkin, E. N. Pelinovsky, Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics 2023 Vol. 66 No. 2-3 P. 116–128
By convention, water waves are studied under the assumption of their potentiality. This approx imation is not always valid in natural conditions. The vorticity is introduced by shear currents, which are ubiquitous in the ocean. It is also generated in the near-surface layer as a result of wind action. When these factors are taken into ...

Abrashkin A. A., Pelinovsky E., Известия высших учебных заведений. Радиофизика 2023 Т. LXVI № 2-3 С. 130–144
By tradition, water waves are studied under the assumption of their potentiality. The vorticity is introduced by shear currents which are ubiquitous in the ocean. It is also generated in near-surface layer as a result of wind action. When these factors are taken into account, the models developed for pitential waves require refinement and generalization. ...

Cauchy invariants and exact solutions of nonlinear equations of hydrodynamics
Pelinovsky E., Abrashkin A. A., Theoretical and Mathematical Physics 2023 Vol. 215 No. 2 P. 599–608
We review exact solutions for gravity waves in deep water. All of them are obtained within the Lagrangian framework and are generalizations of Gerstner waves (to the cases of inhomogeneous pressure on the free surface and taking the rotation of the fluid into account). The Cauchy invariants are found for each type of waves. ...

Gerstner waves and their generalizations in hydrodynamics and geophysics
Abrashkin A. A., Pelinovsky E., Physics-Uspekhi 2022 Vol. 65 P. 453–467
To mark 220 years since the appearance of Gerstner's paper that proposed an exact solution to the hydrodynamic equations, an overview of exact solutions for water waves is given, each of which is a generalization of the Gerstner wave. Additional factors are coastal geometry, fluid rotation, varying pressure on the free surface, stratification, fluid compressibility, and background flows. Waves on ...

WIND GENERATED EQUATORIAL GERSTNER-TYPE WAVES
Abrashkin A. A., Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems 2019 Vol. 39 No. 8 P. 4443–4453
A class of non-stationary surface gravity waves propagating in the zonal direction in the equatorial region is described in the f -plane approx imation. These waves are described by exact solutions of the equations of hydrodynamics in Lagrangian formulation and are generalizations of Gerstner waves. The wave shape and non-uniform pressure distribution on a free sur face depend on two ...

Generalization of Cauchy invariants for equatorial beta-plane flows
Abrashkin A. A., Deep-Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography 2019 Vol. 160 P. 3–6
Three Lagrangian invariants are shown to exist for flows in the equatorial region in the β - plane approximation. They extend the Cauchy invariants to a non-rotating fluid. The relationship between these generalized invariants and the results following from Kelvin's and Ertel's theorems is ascertained. Explicit expressions of the invariants for equatorially trapped waves and equatorial Gerstner waves ...

Unsteady Gerstner waves
Abrashkin A. A., Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2019 Vol. 118 P. 152–158
We present an analytical description of the class of unsteady vortex surface waves generated by non- uniformly distributed, time-harmonic pressure. The fluid motion is described by an exact solution of the equations of hydrodynamics generalizing the Gerstner solution. The trajectories of the fluid particles are circumferences. The particles on a free surface rotate around circumferences ...

Dynamics of a Wave Packet on the Surface of an Inhomogeneously Vortical Fluid (Lagrangian Description)
Abrashkin A. A., Pelinovsky E., Izvestia, Atmospheric and Oceanic Physic 2018 Vol. 54 No. 1 P. 101–105
A nonlinear Schrцdinger equation (NSE) describing packets of weakly nonlinear waves in an inhomogeneously vortical infinitely deep fluid has been derived. The vorticity is assumed to be an arbitrary function of Lagrangian coordinates and quadratic in the small parameter proportional to the wave steepness. It is shown that the modulational instability criteria for the weakly vortical waves and ...

On the relation between Stokes drift and the Gerstner wave
Abrashkin A. A., Pelinovsky E., Physics-Uspekhi 2018 Vol. 61 P. 307–312
We discuss the properties of two-dimensional, non linear, potential, and vortex waves on the surface of an ideal liquid of infinite depth. It is shown that in the quadratic order in the amplitude, the vorticity of the Gerstner wave is equal in magnitude to and different in sign from that of the Stokes drift current in a surface layer. This ...

О СВЯЗИ ДРЕЙФА СТОКСА И ВОЛНЫ ГЕРСТНЕРА
Abrashkin A. A., Pelinovsky E., Успехи физических наук 2018 Т. 188 С. 329–334
It is shown in the quadratic approximation that the Gerstner wave vorticity is equal and of different sign to the vorticity of Stokes drift current in deep water. That gives an opportunity to interpret the Stokes wave as a superposition of the Gerstner wave and the Stokes drift and to explain, why the nonlinearity in ...
