This article examines the problems associated with the regional aspect of economic reforms in Russia in 1992. The materials of the periodical press, memoirs of state figures of the Russian Federation are involved. Analyzing the sources and historiography used, the authors concluded that Gaidar's "shock therapy" led not only to social, but also to political changes in the Russian regions, in some of which separatist tendencies were traced.
