In article one of the most important stages of history of the Moscow theater which belongs to the first decades of the 19th century is considered. At this time the theater not only endured a number of blows; changed the status with privatewith imperial. It allowed to keep structure, to create conditions for its further de-velopment. Special attention is paid to death of theater in 1812 and to attempts to revive theater in Moscow. This event holds a specific place in the history of the Moscow theater. From this point functioning of theater in Moscow is perceived as the integral part of life of the city is called by nobody into question any more.
