Pathological Upper Limb Synergies of Patients with Poststroke Hemiparesis

Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology. 2018. Vol. 48. No. 7. P. 813–822.
Хижникова А. Е., Клочков А. С., Nazarova M., Черникова Л. А.

This review presents current data on possible mechanisms forming synergies in health, particularly at the
cortical level. The mechanisms of formation of pathological synergies, taking account of the anatomical
and physiological characteristics of the upper limbs and the hypothesis, that synergistic patterns are transformed
in patients with spastic hemiparesis are discussed. Current views of the pathophysiological bases
of the formation of pathological synergies based on neuroimaging and neurophysiological study data are
presented, along with a method for noninvasive stimulation of the brain. The question of the correction and
transformation of pathological synergies in rehabilitation practice is discussed. Particular attention is paid to
clinical and instrumented evaluation of synergies and the use of validated clinical scales and instrumented
methods such as video movement analysis, electromyography, magnetic and contactless tracking systems,
and virtual reality technologies.

Motor imagery perspective shapes corticospinal excitability with effector-specific effects
Feurra M., Perevoznyuk G., Ragimova A. et al., Scientific Reports 2026 No. 16 Article 13098 (2026)
Motor imagery (MI) allows individuals to mentally simulate movements without execution, engaging neural pathways that overlap with those used during real actions. However, how imagery perspective influences corticospinal excitability across different effectors remains unclear. Using neuronavigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), we compared kinesthetic (KMI), first-person visual (VMI-1PP), and third-person visual (VMI-3PP) imagery of elbow flexion-extension ...

Rapid synthesis of redox-responsive trithiocyanuric acid-based nanocarriers: in vitro multidrug resistance reversal and In vivo safety assessment
Kopoleva E., Sergey A. Tsymbal, Kuchur O. et al., Drug Delivery and Translational Research 2026 P. 1–16
Multidrug resistance (MDR) remains one of the principal challenges in cancer chemotherapy, necessitating new strategies to restore drug efficacy. In this study we developed and characterize a redox-responsive nanoplatform based on trithiocyanuric acid and polyethylene glycol (TTCA-PEG NPs) as a potential tool to overcome MDR and provide a biocompatible delivery system for conventional antitumor drugs. ...

Self-face viewing attenuates cardiac modulation of corticospinal excitability
Makarova M., Fedosov N., Mikhailova I. et al., FRONTIERS IN SIGNAL PROCESSING 2026 Vol. 6 Article 1776807
Introduction:  While self-referential attention is thought to enhance interoceptive sensitivity, its effect on cardiac modulation of corticospinal excitability remains unexplored. This pilot study investigated how viewing one’s own face (self-face processing) modulates the cardiac-phase coupling of motor output and whether this heart-brain coupling depends on interoceptive accuracy (heartbeat perception). Methods:  In 15 healthy adults, motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) were ...

Pogodaeva S. S., Miletina O. O., Mammadova L. V. et al., Frontiers in Bioscience - Landmark 2026 Vol. 31 No. 4 Article 48544
Background: Neuroblastoma (NB), a transcriptionally driven pediatric malignancy, exhibits a remarkable clinical and biological heterogeneity. Two major subtypes, adrenergic and mesenchymal, are differentially governed by distinct subsets of transcription factors that constitute the core regulatory circuitry (CRC). The adrenergic subtype is often associated with MYCN amplification and is particularly aggressive and therapy-resistant, underscoring the need ...

Barskaya E. S., Savin A. M., Chernov K. V. et al., International Journal of Molecular Sciences 2026 Vol. 27 No. 6 Article 2800
Copper–organic compounds are being investigated as antitumor candidates. Besides their efficacy as cytotoxic agents alone, the oxidative potential of electrochemical Cu2+-to-Cu1+ transition emerges as an attractive approach for elimination of tumor cells otherwise resistant to chemotherapy. To minimize side effects of the potent oxidative burst upon Cu(II) reduction, the metal cations should be delivered to the ...

The recalcitrance of tumors to photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been linked to PDT-induced activation of survival pathways in sublethally afflicted cancer cells that modulate cellular responses to oxidative stress and damage. Survival signaling manifests in regions of the tumor where the tumor cells are insufficiently photosensitized or subjected to inadequate fluence rates. The survival signaling ...

MReye-Seg: development and validation of an automated MRI pipeline for standardised ocular and orbital morphometrics
Tang G., Ahmadi S., Jillings S. et al., Eye 2025 Vol. 39 No. 18 P. 3294–3305
INTRODUCTION: Robust and objective quantification of ophthalmic and retroorbital structures from standard neuroimaging is an accessible but still untapped resource for clinical assessment. Current approaches mostly rely on subjective manual measurements, introducing variability and limiting clinical integration. We developed and validated an automated ocular morphometrics pipeline enabling diagnostic precision through standardised orbital measurements. METHODS: The presented pipeline consists of: ...

Neural correlates of vestibular adaptation in cosmonauts after long duration spaceflight
Schoenmaekers C., Jillings S., Mortaheb S. et al., NPJ MICROGRAVITY 2025 Vol. 11 Article 71
Long-duration spaceflight affects otolith-mediated ocular counter-roll (OCR) and brain function, but the relationship between these changes is unclear. This study examines whether OCR changes correlate with functional connectivity (FC) changes in the vestibular network in the same cosmonauts after a long-duration (6-month) spaceflight mission. Using a human vestibular atlas, we found that changes in FC ...

scRNA-seq of preeclamptic trophoblasts identifies EBI3, COL17A1, miR-27a-5p, and miR-193b-5p as hypoxia markers: validation of neuradapt as a superior mimetic to cobalt chloride
Knyazev E., Timur Kulagin, Antipenko I. et al., Placenta 2026 Vol. 176 P. 1–12
Background. Preeclampsia (PE) complicates 2–8% of pregnancies and involves placental hypoxia and HIF-pathway activation, especially in early-onset PE (eoPE). Chemical mimetics like cobalt(II) chloride (CoCl2) and oxyquinoline derivatives model trophoblast hypoxia in vitro, yet their fidelity in recapitulating PE gene profiles remains unclear. Integrating patient tissue analyses with experimental models may reveal common markers and ...
