Образ Рюрика в современном пространстве Северо-Запада России

862 is the year of legendary “invitation to Varangians”. On this year the Primarily Chronicle described the events connected with so called “Varangian Legend” which disturbs minds of history-lovers and (for less extent) historians during centuries. Hopefully public outgivings by leading historians and archaeologists were not connected with direct profit. Actually, jubilees are the language which modern stockholders are ready to speak with society and even with experts in history. Choosing of Rurik as a new symbol of the Founder of Russian State Organization is a little bit strange but in any case easy. It is determined by the total archaic trend in popular historiography. New creators of Rurik image are plotting their myth on Karamzin’s authority or even immediately on the “validity of the text of ancient chronicle” (they read the texts of course very literally). Such myth creation happens on the phone of bright development of researches on Old Rus’. Rurik in 2000-2010s made a new point where the interests of powers and some high managers of historical research were crossing. Post-Soviet ressentiment of contemporary Russian stockholders is open to perceive simple and understandable ideas of describing the roots of State Organizing, lack of deep historiographical studies and connotations. The image of Rurik is not accidental: it is easy to recognize it (according to top-Soviet movies – ressentiment again); the Varangian legend is easy and clear and some uncertainty concerning Varangians’ ethnic attribution allows promoting the etiological legend of Russian State Organization among wide circle of people. Discourse about Rurik is actual only in North-Western Russian Federation, probably in Moscow to some extent. The discussion in academia and in media on the theme is lack in Ural and Siberia regions: that was one of the mistakes during the preparation to “Russian State’ Anniversary Celebration” in 2012.
