Does Sound Timing Organization Matter? How Time Interval Influences the Perception of Closely Spaced Frequencies
Liaukovich K., Martynova O., Brain Sciences 2026 Vol. 5 No. 16 P. 439
Highlights What are the main findings? Temporal predictability may enhance auditory frequency discrimination, but only under active listening and when discrimination is difficult; the local irregularity (five-tone bundles) yields higher hit rates and perceptual sensitivity (d’) compared to oddball or two-tone paradigms, accompanied by enhanced P300 amplitude. Participants may show a dissociation between objective performance and subjective awareness: ...

Semantics and Syntax Effects on Event-Related Fields during Speech Comprehension: a MEG Study
Zhozhikashvili N., Olga V. Sysoeva, Makarova E. et al., Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 2026 Vol. 20 Article 1759177
This manuscript fits the scope of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience (Speech and Language) as it investigates the cortical dynamics of speech perception using MEG during naturalistic auditory comprehension. The study examines how semantic dissimilarity and word class modulate MEG event-related fields (ERFs), reflecting aspects of semantic integration and syntactic processing during continuous speech. The results ...

Features of Perception of a Person’s Own Name Compared to the Perception of Names with Similar and Different Sounds: Analysis of Event-Related Potentials
Oknina L. B., Podlepich V. V., Vologdina Y. O. et al., Human Physiology 2025 Vol. 51 No. 2 P. 79–88
In recent years, there has been an increased interest in how a person distinguishes his own name from other stimuli. In large part this interest is determined by the intensive development of a personalized approach in medicine, psychology, and rehabilitation. The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of a person’s perception of ...

Developmental Changes in Presentation Rate Effect on Auditory Event-Related Potential through Childhood to Adulthood
Kostanian D. G., Rebreikina A. B., Sysoeva O.V., RUDN Journal of Psychology and Pedagogics 2024 Vol. 21 No. 1 P. 96–114
Abstract. In adults, the rate of stimuli presentation has been shown to play a critical role for the event related potentials (ERP): its components become larger as presentation rate decreases. But there are few works evaluating developmental changes of this ERP modulation that might provide insights into basic forms of learning. The current study aims ...

Окнина Л. Б., Подлепич В. В., Вологдина Я. О. et al., Физиология человека 2025 Т. 51 № 2 С. 3–13
In recent years, there has been an increased interest in understanding how humans distinguish their own names from other stimuli. This can be attributed to the intensive development of personalized approaches in medicine, psychology, and rehabilitation. The purpose of this study was, based on an analysis of the bioelectrical activity of the brain, to identify the ...

Atypical brain responses to 40-Hz click trains in girls with Rett syndrome: Auditory steady-state response and sustained wave
Neklyudova A., Kuramagomedova R., Voinova V. et al., Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences 2024 Vol. 78 No. 5 P. 282–290
Aim: The current study aimed to infer neurophysiological mechanisms of auditory processing in children with Rett syndrome (RTT)-rare neurodevelopmental disorders caused by MECP2 mutations. We examined two brain responses elicited by 40-Hz click trains: auditory steady-state response (ASSR), which reflects fine temporal analysis of auditory input, and sustained wave (SW), which is associated with integral processing ...

Evoked Potentials Appearing in the Human Midbrain after Sounding of a Simple Tone
Kantserova A. O., Oknina L. B., Pitskhelauri D. I. et al., Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology 2023 Vol. 53 No. 3 P. 358–364
Studies of neuron activity in animals have shown that the brainstem is involved in processing the ends of sounds. We report here an analysis of the reaction of the human midbrain to the ends of sound stimuli. Electrical activity was recorded using a depth electrode located in the cerebral aqueduct. The study was conducted as ...

Auditory Mismatch Negativity Response in Institutionalized Children
Ovchinnikova I., Zhukova M., Luchina A. et al., Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 2019 No. 13 P. 1–8
The attunement of speech perception/discrimination to the properties of one’s native language is a crucial step in speech and language development at early ages. Studying these processes in young children with a history of institutionalization is of great interest, as being raised in institutional care (IC) may lead to lags in language development. The sample ...

Feature binding under holistic object perception: the interplay of bottom-up and top-down brain mechanisms
Chernysheva E. G., Lazarev I. E., Saifulina K.E. et al., , in: International Congress "Neuroscience for Medicine and Psychology", Sudak, Crimea, Russia, May 30-June 10, 2017.: [б.и.], 2017. P. 446–446.
Feature binding is believed to be critical for perception, while brain mechanisms of this process are still under debate. Studies measuring mismatch negativity (MMN) demonstrate that binding occurs at a low level of the cortical hierarchy, while behavioral experiments suggest a much higher integrative level. The current study aimed at testing the hypothesis that processing of feature conjunctions ...

Event-related potential study of P2 and N2 components on fast and slow responses in the auditory condensation task
Chernyshev B. V., Medvedev V., / Series WP BRP "PSYCHOLOGY". 2016. No. WP BRP 70/PSY/2016.
In tasks involving response choice based on certain stimulus-to-response mappings, at least two stages of information processing may be involved: (1) formation of sensory stimulus object representations leading to stimulus identification, and (2) application of stimulus-to-response mappings (i.e. “task rules”) to these representations leading to response selection. Most of the research done in this area ...

Distributed feature binding in the auditory modality: experimental evidence toward reconciliation of opposing views on the basis of mismatch negativity and behavioral measures
Boris V. Chernyshev, Bryzgalov D. V., Lazarev I. E. et al., NeuroReport 2016 Vol. 27 No. 11 P. 837–842
Current understanding of feature binding remains controversial. Studies involving mismatch negativity (MMN) measurement show a low level of binding, whereas behavioral experiments suggest a higher level. We examined the possibility that the two levels of feature binding coexist and may be shown within one experiment. The electroencephalogram was recorded while participants were engaged in an ...

Chrabaszcz A., Winn M., Lin C. et al., Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research 2014 Vol. 57 P. 1468–1479
Purpose: This study investigated how listeners’ native language affects their weighting of acoustic cues (such as vowel quality, pitch, duration, and intensity) in the perception of contrastive word stress. Method: Native speakers (N = 45) of typologically diverse languages (English, Russian, and Mandarin) performed a stress identification task on nonce disyllabic words with fully crossed ...

Концепция когнитивных кадров
Alyushin A., Философские науки 2010 № 11 С. 104–115
