‘Our Team Consists of True Leaders in Their Respective Academic Disciplines
The HSE International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis studies a wide range of methods for analysing decision-making and possible scenarios for the development of natural, socio-economic, and political phenomena using various mathematical models. The application of advanced mathematical methods to forecasting helps to prevent negative outcomes and avoid erroneous decisions. The HSE News Service spoke to the centre’s director, Prof. Fuad Aleskerov, about its work.

Content, Consumer, Corrections: A Neurocognitive Model of Misinformation Processing

Psychology. Journal of the Higher School of Economics. 2026. Vol. 23. No. 3. P. 512–527.
Monahhova E., Gorodnicheva Y., Morozova A., Klucharev V.

The rapid proliferation of misinformation in digital environments poses a serious threat to public health, political institutions, and public discourse. Behavioral research has accumulated substantial evidence on why people believe and share false information, yet individual studies address cognitive biases, social factors, or emotional processes largely in isolation. Additionally, the influential integrative frameworks that do exist operate exclusively at the behavioral level, overlooking the neurophysiological mechanisms of misinformation processing. This work addresses that gap by proposing a neurocognitive model that synthesizes behavioral and neuroimaging findings within a unified framework. Following an integrative review methodology, we organize the literature around three domains: message characteristics (Content: emotionality, novelty, repetition), individual consumer traits (Consumer: analytical thinking, need for cognition, working memory, conformity, emotional state, and prior beliefs), and corrective interventions (Corrections: reactive debunking and pre-emptive prebunking, inoculation, and warnings). For each domain, principal behavioral factors are mapped onto their fMRI and EEG/MEG/ERP correlates. Cross-domain analysis reveals that these behaviorally distinct phenomena rely on a shared neural infrastructure of four functional hubs, each performing a core computational operation: conflict detection (anterior cingulate cortex), belief valuation (ventromedial prefrontal cortex), memory encoding and persistence (hippocampal–amygdala circuit), and executive control (dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and inferior frontal gyrus). Framed as a mechanism sketch, the model generates testable neuroimaging predictions and points toward neuroscience-informed strategies for countering misinformation.

(Sense of Agency Scale)
Grishutina M. M., Kostenko V., Lebedeva A., Вопросы психологии 2025 Т. 71 № 4 С. 127–135

Lyu M., Omopekunola M., Wang F., / Series 2026.aimecon-wip.55 "Proceedings of the Artificial Intelligence in Measurement and Education Conference (AIME-Con)". 2026.
Large language models (LLMs) have been proposed as a substitute for field trials in itemdifficulty estimation, but evidence about where they succeed is usually drawn from a single test form. We compare LLM difficulty predictions across three task types that make different language demands, grammar cloze, semantic cloze and reading comprehension, on two operational Grade ...

Existing approaches for modeling opinion dynamics mostly do not take into account the dynamism of social relations in a group. This paper proposes an algorithm and a program ...

Ragimova A., Imanaeva M., Nieto Doval C. M. et al., Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 2026 Vol. 20 P. 1–15
Background: Motor resonance reflects the activation of the motor system during the observation of others’ actions and is considered a physiological marker of the human mirror neuron system (MNS). This study investigated whether the excitatory and inhibitory balance in the primary motor cortex, driven by glutamatergic and GABAergic mechanisms, is linked to the strength of ...

Context. The preschool period is a critical stage for the development of prosocial behavior. Children begin to understand the feelings of others, and the foundations of empathy and mutual assistance are formed. Situation-specific expressions of care can develop into more stable forms when children are embedded in a system of social relationships. However, the specific characteristics ...

A quantum–analogue formalism for modeling supraliminal information processing
Lubashevsky I., Lubashevskiy V., Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena 2026 Vol. 498 Article 135441
We develop a novel cloud-function formalism describing the dynamical relationship between sensory-information processing in large-scale brain networks (supraliminal processing) and the content of the mental representation of an observed object. The formalism combines elements of neural field theory for large-scale neural activity with the spatial characteristics of perceived objects and their embedding in the environment ...

Kotov A. A., Зайцева Е.

This article examines how Russians conceptualize the groups most vulnerable to fake news. Drawing on 119 semi-structured interviews conducted in spring 2024, I find clear evidence of the third-person effect: participants believe that disinformation primarily threatens “others” who differ from them on salient dimensions. Age is the most common basis for dividing society into “us” ...

The term "fake news" has entered not only academic discourse but also everyday language. Researchers highlight a wide range of negative consequences associated with disinformation. However, it remains unknown whether the public problematizes this situation and whether news audiences are willing to justify fake news in certain contexts. This study's empirical base comprises 119 semi-structured ...
