HSE Researchers Show How Congenital Motor Disorders Affect Brain Development
Researchers from HSE University’s Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have synthesised the findings of their previous studies on brain development in children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy and arthrogryposis. Their analysis shows that impaired motor function in early childhood not only limits children’s motor experience but also affects memory, categorical thinking, and information processing. The study has been published in Frontiers in Psychology.

Window into the Body: Scientists Develop Neural Network to Detect Risk of 15 Diseases from Retinal Images
Russian universities, with the participation of HSE University, Sber, and Z-union, have developed a neural network that can simultaneously assess the risk of 15 types of pathology from retinal photographs, including not only eye diseases but also cardiovascular conditions. The AI system can help clinicians detect potentially concerning changes at an early stage, identify signs reflecting the condition of retinal blood vessels, and determine whether a patient may need further examination. The paper has been published in Frontiers in Medicine.

'We Did Not Limit the Time for Questions'
The International Laboratory for Supercomputer Atomistic Modelling and Multi-Scale Analysis at HSE University held a major conference on molecular dynamics. Participants had the opportunity to attend all the presentations, while speakers were given as much time as they needed to answer questions. The HSE News Service interviewed Grigory Smirnov, Head of the Laboratory, and Genri Norman, Chief Research Fellow, about the conference preparations and the discussions it generated.

Учение Эпикура о свободе человека как предвестие проблемы свободы воли
С.Н. Кочеров, Schole. Философское антиковедение и классическая традиция 2025 Т. 19 № 2 С. 1036–1049
The article analyzes the provisions on which Epicurus' doctrine of freedom is based. It is shown that the deviations of atoms, which many researchers consider to be the main argument in defense of freedom in Epicurus, do not prove freedom, but the objectivity of accidents and the probable nature of events. Without denying the influence ...

Are prime numbers and quadratic residues random?
Blank M., Discrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems 2025 Vol. 45 No. 11 P. 4186–4201
Appeals to randomness in various number-theoretic constructions appear regularly in modern scientific publications. Such famous names as V.I. Arnold, M. Katz, Ya.G. Sinai, and T. Tao are just a few examples. Unfortunately, all of these approaches rely on various, although often very non-trivial and elegant, heuristics. A new analytical approach is proposed to address the ...

Прогнозирование распространения COVID-19 в ЕС с использованием рандомизированного машинного обучения динамических моделей
Popkov A., Dubnov Y. A., Popkov Y., Информационные технологии и вычислительные системы 2022 № 3 С. 67–78
The work is devoted to application of the theory of Randomized Machine Learning to forecasting of the COVID-19 pandemic based on SIR epidemiological model. We propose two modelling variants, the first is based on estimation of SIR model using real case data, the second is based on the idea of modelling transmission coefficient and its prediction. Comparative study ...

We propose an approach to estimation of the parameters of non-linear dynamic models using the concept of Randomized Machine Learning (RML), based on the transition from deterministic models to random ones (with random parameters), followed by estimation of the probability distributions of parameters and noises on real data. The main feature of this method is ...

© St. Petersburg Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The paper is devoted to the forecasting of the COVID-19 epidemic by the novel method of randomized machine learning. This method is based on the idea of estimation of probability distributions of model parameters and noises on real data. Entropy-optimal distributions correspond to the ...

Estimating the index of increase via balancing deterministic and random data
Chen L., Davydov Y., Gribkova N. et al., Mathematical Methods of Statistics 2018 Vol. 27 P. 83–102
We introduce and explore an empirical index of increase that works in both deterministic and random environments, thus allowing to assess monotonicity of functions that are prone to random measurement errors. We prove consistency of the index and show how its rate of convergence is influenced by deterministic and random parts of the data. In ...

On the Probability of Co-primality of two Natural Numbers Chosen at Random: From Euler identity to Haar Measure on the Ring of Adeles
Abramovich S., Nikitin Y. Y., Bernoulli News 2017 Vol. 24 No. 1 P. 7–13
The paper describes the rich history of remarkable problem lying at the confluence of number theory and probability. What is the probability of co-prima;lity of two randomly selected random numbers? In russian literature this problem and its solution is attributed to P.L.Chebyshev, but we show that before Chebyshev the solution was given by P. Dirichlet, ...

Knyazeva H., Философские науки 2011 № 9 С. 99–115
The notion of emergent evolution is under consideration in the article. Distinguished French scholars Edgar Morin, Isabel Stengers and 1ол1 de Rosnay have made a considerable contribution to the investigation of the notion. This notion plays a key role in the modern universal (global) evolutionism as well as in the theory of selforganization of complex systems. Meanings of ...
