The article examines the topological dimension of the critique of modernity in the later philosophy of

Martin Heidegger. The focus is on the transition from the historico-existential thought of the 1930s to

the topological thought of the 1940s, in which the spatial dimension of Being is articulated through the

concepts of place (Ort), region (Gegend), and open-region (Gegnet). The author argues that this turn

not only supplements but transforms Heidegger’s project of the critique of metaphysics: modernity

appears not merely as the historical epoch of consummated metaphysics, but as a loss of place – a

reduction of openness to the functional space of representation. In this context, the notions of releasement

(Gelassenheit) and hearkening (Gehorsamkeit) are analyzed as disclosing an alternative mode of human

existence irreducible to the subject-object opposition. In conclusion, Heidegger’s ideas are compared

with the critical theories of Jürgen Habermas and Yuk Hui. The author concludes that topological thinking

allows for a reconsideration of the critique of modernity, providing a foundation for examining the local

and spatial conditions of meaning-formation and world-relations.
