Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

‘Our Team Consists of True Leaders in Their Respective Academic Disciplines
The HSE International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis studies a wide range of methods for analysing decision-making and possible scenarios for the development of natural, socio-economic, and political phenomena using various mathematical models. The application of advanced mathematical methods to forecasting helps to prevent negative outcomes and avoid erroneous decisions. The HSE News Service spoke to the centre’s director, Prof. Fuad Aleskerov, about its work.

A comprehensive approach to studying motor planning and execution using 3D-printed objects and motion tracking technology
Alexander Vyazmin, Sangram Behera, Lan See G. et al., Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 2025 Vol. 19 Article 1620526
Background: Motor planning critically supports efficient hand grasping and object manipulation, involving the precise integration of sensory cues and anticipatory motor commands. Current methods often inadequately separate motor planning from movement execution, thus limiting our understanding of anticipatory motor control mechanisms. Objective: This study aimed to establish and validate a structured methodological approach to investigate motor planning and ...

M. A. Ulanov, Shtyrov Y., Stroganova T., Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology 2019 Vol. 49 No. 9 P. 1169–1180
In recent years, possible therapeutic effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) have been widely investigated in studies dealing with different types of neural pathologies. Initially, tDCS was applied for treatment of patients with motor stroke; later on, it was introduced into studies of patients with Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, and post-stroke ...

Assessment of physical strength from gait: data from the Maasai of Tanzania
Fink B., Butovskaya M., Shackelford T., Biology Letters 2019 Vol. 15 No. 3 P. 20180803-1–20180803-4
In industrialized societies, male gait provides information about physical strength. Male physical strength may be used by men and women to assess the fighting ability of rivals and the quality of potential mates, respectively. Women more than men discriminate between strong and weak walkers when assessing gait attractiveness. We presented videos of British men’s gait—pre-categorized ...

Ulanov M., Shtyrov Y., Stroganova T., / Series WP BRP "PSYCHOLOGY". 2017. No. 86/PSY/2017.
In recent years, possible therapeutic effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) have been widely investigated in studies of different types of neural pathologies. Recent reviews of tDCS in patients with post-stroke aphasia did not provide coherent evidence oа its efficiency. There were no uniform protocols of stimulation, patient selection criteria were highly divergent, and ...
