Measurement of the Branching Fraction Ratios 𝑅(𝐷+) and 𝑅(𝐷*+) Using Muonic 𝜏 Decays
Physical Review Letters. 2025. Vol. 134. Article 061801.
The branching fraction ratios of ¯𝐵0→𝐷+𝜏−¯𝜈𝜏 and ¯𝐵0→𝐷*+𝜏−¯𝜈𝜏 decays are measured with respect to their muonic counterparts, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at √𝑠 =13 TeV. The reconstructed final states are formed by combining 𝐷+ mesons with 𝜏−→𝜇−¯𝜈𝜇𝜈𝜏 candidates, where the 𝐷+ is reconstructed via the 𝐷+ →𝐾−𝜋+𝜋+ decay. The results are 𝑅(𝐷+)=0.249±0.043±0.047, 𝑅(𝐷*+)=0.402±0.081±0.085, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The two measurements have a correlation coefficient of −0.39 and are compatible with the standard model.

The optimal implementation of quantum gates for closed $N$-qubit systems is one of the key challenges for practical realization of many quantum information processing tasks. In the present article, based on the generalized Bloch vectors formalism [J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 54, 195301 (2021)] for a finite-dimensional quantum system, we develop a new \emph{general} model for the ...

The propagation regimes of nonlinear gravity-capillary waves in deep water are studied. The fluid motion is described by exact solutions of the two-dimensional equations of an ideal incompressible fluid in Lagrangian variables. The trajectories of fluid particles are circles whose radius decreases exponentially with depth (as in the Gerstner wave). The pressure on the free ...

Clarity of knowledge and reasoning is necessary in many cases. Yet vagueness in scientific thinking related to surprise, curiosity, and “ability to engage with not-knowing” (de Freitas) is also a crucially important source of scientific creativity. Starting from studies by C. S. Peirce and B. Russell, scientists have developed tools for working with increasingly accurate ...

Spectral studies of electroluminescence have been conducted on edge-emitting lasers with different cavity lengths. Mirrors were formed by focused ion beam technique and cleaving. A wide range of injection currents was used. Active region of the lasers consists of dense arrays of InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots, which enabled to obtain lasing in stripe lasers with cavities ...

Excitation-dependent photoluminescence of an InGaN/GaN multiple-quantum-well (MQW) heterostructure grown on sapphire was studied over a broad range of excitation power densities. At low and intermediate excitation densities, photoluminescence indicated carrier localization, a gradual reduction in the relative contribution of nonradiative recombination, and screening of the quantum-confined Stark effect. At high excitation densities, state filling, spectral ...

We study the spatial overlap of successive spin configurations generated by Markov chain Monte Carlo simulations of the Baxter–Wu model. Using the Novotny–Evertz sublattice-freezing single-cluster update, we track the mean and variance of the algorithmic overlap across the critical region. We show that, even in this three-spin model, the overlap acts as an algorithmic observable ...

The concept of representative volume (REV, or RVE in material sciences) is the cornerstone of continuum scale models – one needs to get the volume big enough so that it could be represented with an averaged value (scalar, vector or tensorial, etc.). Abstract The low-energy plasmonic properties of a free-standing Au (111) monolayer, frequently referred to as goldene, are investigated by time-dependent density functional theory in the random phase approximation. In the evaluation of dielectric and loss functions, the first-principle, band structure characterized by a single s − p energy band at the Fermi level is taken ...

We study the density-matrix kinetics of a charged test particle in two types of Coulomb environment. For a prescribed Gaussian potential, averaging the random-unitary dynamics leads to a Born–Novikov memory equation; Novikov’s identity is exact, but its closure requires a second-order approximation. An equilibrium quantum bath instead yields a Born–Redfield equation with ordered correlators and ...
