At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

A model of the cubic connectedness locus

Nonlinearity. 2025. Vol. 38. No. 7. Article 075014.
Blokh A., Oversteegen L., Timorin V., Wang Y.

We describe a locally connected model of the cubic connectedness locus. The model is obtained by constructing a decomposition of the space of critical portraits and collapsing elements of the decomposition into points. This model is similar to a quotient of the combinatorial quadratic Mandelbrot set in which all baby Mandelbrot sets, as well as the filled Main Cardioid, are collapsed to points. All fibres of the model, possibly except one, are connected. The authors are not aware of other known models of the cubic connectedness locus.

Aleksei Samarin, Nazarenko A., Nazarenko D. et al., Machine Learning and Knowledge Extraction 2026 Vol. 8 No. 10 Article 330
Automated microscopic image analysis is essential for quantitative microbiology, yet manual acquisition and generic recognition models struggle with morphological variability and scene artifacts. We address both ends of this pipeline. First, we present a low-cost, open-source acquisition system, based on an Arduino UNO R3 microcontroller and NEMA 17 stepper motors, that automates focusing, magnification, and ...

On Calculation of Robustness and Stability of Formal Concepts Based on Delta Measure
Parkhomenko V., Kulikova S., Buzmakov A. V., Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics 2026 Vol. 47 No. 6 P. 2979–2992
The stability of formal concepts and its generalization as robustness are considered in the paper. We use an approximation of stability in the form of Δ-measure for fast calculations. A computationally efficient method for calculating robustness based on subcontexts is presented. We also present a new method to analytically evaluate the number of preimages for ...

Poincaré series of valuations on functions over a subfield of complex numbers
Gusein-Zade S., Campillo A., Delgado F., Mathematische Zeitschrift 2026 Vol. 314 No. 1 P. 1–22
For a subfield $\K$ of the field $\C$ of complex numbers, we consider curve and divisorial valuations on the algebra $\K[[x,y]]$ of formal power series in two variables with the coefficients in $\K$. We compute the semigroup Poincar\'e series and the classical Poincar\'e series of a (discrete, rank one) valuation on it. ...

Wave scattering by a sloping beach of an arbitrary angle. Revisited: regular solution
Mishuris G., Meylan M. H., Pelinovsky E., Journal of Fluid Mechanics 2026 Vol. 1045 Article A4
In this paper, we revisit the classic problem of a wave field on a sloping beach of an arbitrary angle and propose a general approach that allows the computation of regular solutions of the problem regardless of the angle. We use the Mellin-transform technique, reducing the problem to singular integral equations with fixed-point singularities of ...

Linear dependencies, polynomial factors in the Duke–Erdős forbidden sunflower problem
Kupavskii A., Noskov F., Forum of Mathematics, Sigma 2026 Vol. 14 Article 124
We call a family of $s$ sets $\{F_1, \ldots, F_s\}$ a sunflower with $s$ petals if, for any distinct $i, j \in [s]$, one has $F_i \cap F_j = \cap_{u = 1}^s F_u$. The set $C = \cap_{u = 1}^s F_u$ is called the {\it core} of the sunflower. It is a classical result of ...

Modulational Instability and Wave Dynamics in the Rotated Modified Gardner–Whitham Equation
Flamarion M. V., Pelinovsky E., Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2026 Vol. 213 No. 2 Article 119245
This article concerns the study of modulational instability in the rotated-modified Gardner–Whitham (rmGW) equation. This model incorporates both quadratic and cubic nonlinearities, similarly to the Gardner equation, while also retaining the fully dispersive character of the Whitham equation together with a large-scale dispersive term analogous to that in the Ostrovsky equation. Using a classical multiple-scale asymptotic expansion, we ...

Space-Time Fluctuations in a Quasi-static Limit
Bernardin C., Gonçalves P., Olla S., Mathematical Physics Analysis and Geometry 2024 Vol. 27 No. 7
We consider the macroscopic limit for the space-time density fluctuations in the open symmetric simple exclusion in the quasi-static scaling limit. We prove that the distribution of these fluctuations converge to a gaussian space-time field that is delta correlated in time but with long-range correlations in space. ...

To spike or not to spike: the whims of the Wonham filter in the strong noise regime
Bernardin C., Chhaibi R., Najnudel J. et al., Probability Theory and Related Fields 2026 Vol. 195 P. 1823–1875
We study the celebrated Shiryaev-Wonham filter (Wonham, W.M., in J. Soc. Ind. Appl. Math. 347–369, 1964) in its historical setup, where the hidden Markov jump process has two states. We are interested in the weak noise regime for the observation equation. Interestingly, this becomes a strong noise regime for the filtering equations. Earlier results of ...

Множество Мандельброта для пары несобственных преобразований подобия плоскости
Bagaev A., Известия высших учебных заведений. Математика 2025 № 10 С. 30–43
In this paper we investigate the attractors of iterated function systems (IFS) consisting of two plane opposite similitudes. The attractor of such IFS is either a connected or completely disconnected set. Sufficient conditions are found under which the attractor of such a IFS is a connected set. For an arbitrary IFS, sufficient conditions are obtained under which its attractor ...

Lavaurs algorithm for cubic symmetric polynomials
Blokh A., Oversteegen L., Selinger N. et al., Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems 2025 Vol. 45 No. 8 P. 2314–2340
As discovered by W. Thurston, the action of a complex one-variable polynomial on its Julia set can be modeled by a geodesic lamination in the disk, provided that the Julia set is connected. It also turned out that the parameter space of such dynamical laminations of degree two gives a model for the bifurcation locus in the space ...

Classification of the trajectories of uncharged particles in the Schwarzschild-Melvin metric
Bizyaev I., Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology 2024 Vol. 110 No. 10 P. 104031
This paper investigates the trajectories of neutral particles in the Schwarzschild-Melvin spacetime. After reduction by cyclic coordinates this problem reduces to investigating a two-degree-of-freedom Hamiltonian system that has no additional integral. A classification of regions of possible motion of a particle is performed according to the values of the momentum and energy integrals. Bifurcations of periodic ...

Upper bounds for the moduli of polynomial-like maps
Blokh A., Oversteegen L., Timorin V., Nonlinearity 2024 Vol. 37 No. 3 Article 035003
We establish a version of the Pommerenke–Levin–Yoccoz inequality for the modulus of a polynomial-like (PL) restriction of a polynomial and give two applications. First we show that if the modulus of a PL restriction of a polynomial is bounded from below then this restricts the combinatorics of the polynomial. The second application concerns parameter slices ...

Immediate renormalization of cubic complex polynomials with empty rational lamination
Blokh A., Oversteegen L., Timorin V., Moscow Mathematical Journal 2023 Vol. 23 No. 4 P. 441–461
A cubic polynomial $P$ with a non-repelling fixed point $b$ is said to be immediately renormalizable if there exists a (connected) QL invariant filled Julia set $K^*$ such that $b\in K^*$. In that case, exactly one critical point of $P$ does not belong to $K^*$. We show that if, in addition, the Julia set of $P$ has no (pre)periodic cutpoints, then ...
