Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

Social Integration: At the Crossroads of Knowledge and Values
The International Laboratory for Social Integration Research (ILSIR) at HSE University studies the challenges faced by vulnerable groups and explores ways to help them participate fully in everyday life. To develop effective solutions, the laboratory’s researchers combine cutting-edge methods with practical fieldwork. In this interview with the HSE News Service, Laboratory Head Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova discusses the laboratory’s work.

Не дать эмоциям взять верх: устойчив ли эффект кросс-модального соответствия по отношению к индуцированным эмоциональным состояниям и стратегиям эмоциональной регуляции?

Психология. Журнал Высшей школы экономики. 2024. Т. 21. № 4. С. 655–677.
Sherbakova O., Андрющенко Е. А., Мирошник К. Г., Тимохов В. В., Блинова Е. Н., Shtyrov Y.

The so-called cross-modal correspondence effect is a special case of multisensory integration; it manifests as faster and more accurate responses to simultaneously presented stimuli of different modalities that are congruent in certain features (e.g., high-pitch sound — high spatial location), as opposed to incongruent ones. This study assessed the extent to which individual emotional characteristics – both transient (induced emotional states) and stable (cognitive strategies of emotional regulation) — could influence the mechanisms of this effect. We tested whether (1) specific psychophysiological variables (as biomarkers of induced emotional states) could predict the magnitude of the cross-modal (audiovisual) correspondence effect and (2) this magnitude could be related to manifestation of various emotion regulation strategies. Participants (N = 27) filled out an emotion regulation questionnaire and watched videos invoking positive, negative, or neutral emotional states before completing the main task, in which they were presented with tones of lower and higher frequency (1000 and 2000 Hz) and written words that differed in emotional valence and were associated with different parts of vertical space. Their task was to identify the pitch (low/high) of the presented sound. To assess participants’ emotional states psychophysiologically, electrical skin conductance and photoplethysmogram were recorded continuously throughout the experiment. Two-way mixed ANOVA and linear regression were used for data analysis. We found that psychophysiological indices diverged depending on the intended valence (negative/positive) of emotional videos; however, they could not predict the magnitude of the cross-modal correspondence effect. Positive refocusing and rumination strategies predicted the dynamics of psychophysiological indicators, whilst none of emotion regulation strategies modulated the magnitude of the cross-modal correspondence effect. The present resultsshould be taken with due caution in light of potential type II errors and are open to alternative interpretations, which should be addressed in future research.

It is generally accepted that the basis of social and legal stability in any society is a consensus on vir tue — the fundamental values of proper behavior, ways of maintaining and reproducing them. And, conversely, the destruction of this consensus is a sign of the loss of stability and divergence of positions of social ...

Hypergraphs from multivariate connectivity: caCOH-based EEG/MEG representation
Vlasenko D., Saranskaia I., Zakharov D., European Physical Journal: Special Topics 2026 P. 1–16
Hypergraphs provide a natural framework for representing neurophysiological interactions distributed across sets of sensors. A key methodological question is how hyperedges should be defined from frequency-resolved electroencephalography/magnetoencephalography (EEG/MEG) data. We demonstrate a construction strategy in which hyperedges are obtained from canonical coherence (caCOH), an extension of coherence that estimates coupling between multidimensional signal spaces. To ...

Functional Brain Connectivity and Musical Training: Insights from EEG Phase Synchronization during Music Perception
A. Radygina, S. Kulikova, Herald of the Russian Academy of Sciences 2025 Vol. 95 No. 6 P. 963–970
Musical training has a significant impact on brain organization, leading to functional and structural adaptations that enhance auditory, visual, motor, and cognitive processes. This study investigates how extensive musical training shapes functional brain connectivity by comparing professional musicians and non-musicians. Using EEG phase-locking value (PLV) analysis, we examined neural synchronization across alpha, beta, and gamma frequency ranges during music ...

Existing tools for their measurement, such as the ...

Precarious manhood theory (PMT) explains men's compensatory responses to masculinity threats in domains such as affect, aggression, risk-taking, dominance, and social attitudes. While recent meta-analytic evidence suggests that masculinity threat has a small-to-medium average effect, recent preregistered replication work has failed to reproduce some influential masculinity-threat effects in a large representative sample, raising questions about ...

Trofimova N., Pesina S., Vinogradova S. et al., Brazilian Journal of Education, Technology and Society - BRAJETS 2025 Vol. 17 No. 3 P. 126–136
n this article, we have proposed to differentiate textual and lexical metaphtonymy as different phenomena. We have considered the phenomenon of metaphtonymy at the level of text, a chain of words the length of a sentence, a phrase, and a separate meaning. We propose to reserve the term “metaphtonymy” for cases when we are talking ...

Sensorimotor mapping of emotive semantics in bilinguals

Existing research indicates involvement of brain systems underpinning spatial abilities in processing emotive semantics in L1: positive emotions are associated with the right part of space, negative ones with the left. Some suggest similar sensorimotor activations in L1 and L2. Others indicate attenuated processing of L2 emotional words. Aims: We investigated differences in sensorimotor biases ...
