К вопросу о символической стороне даров на Руси в контексте встречи в Москве в 1147 г.
The exchange of gifts was actively practiced on the territory of medieval Europe in process of diplomatic relations between representatives of different noble houses. The author aims to reveal symbolic implication behind the description of gift-giving ritual between Yuri Dolgorukiy and Oleg Svytoslavich, using the instance of the description of giftgiving ritual in the context of the famous meeting in Moscow in 1147. In his observations, the author relies on the concept adduced by M. Moss: any exchange of gifts in pre-industrial societies has a symbolic meaning. After the publication of Moss’s work, the theme of giftgiving was raised more than once in scientific circles. In Russian medieval studies, the problems of gift-giving have been scrutinized in the modern researches by A. Vukovich, Yu.
N. Kezha, L. V. Mininkova. The novelty of this paper is formed by the stated theme – in no study the episode of 1147 was considered on the subject of symbolic communication between the Rurikovichs. The conclusions the author cames to make it possible to comprehend the meeting in Moscow within the framework of symbolic communication.
