"Дары многы с любовию": к вопросу о символической стороне даров на Руси первой половины XII в.
The practice of gift-giving was actively used in the Medieval Europe by representatives of different nobles houses as a meaning to interact with each other. The author of the article aims to scrutinize the examples of describing the
practice of gift exchange in the context of the relationship between the Rurikids and their diplomatic relations to identify the symbolic subtext behind the exchange of gifts. In his observations, the author relies on the concept proposed
by M. Moss: any exchange of gifts in pre-industrial societies has a hidden, symbolic meaning. The novelty of the paper is formed by the stated theme – in no study have the chronicle evidence of the fi rst half of the 12th century been
considered for symbolic communication between the Rurikids.
