Leisure and Recreational Experiences in Russia: Practices of Path Dependency or Adaptation to Change?
Current quality of life and wellbeing studies draw attention to work-life balance as well as to how individuals spend their free time. Leisure and recreational activities along with sport and travelling significantly positively contribute to subjective wellbeing and mental health.
The presented study aims to explore patterns of leisure and recreational practices in Russia. Firstly, a quantitative exploratory analysis will be conducted on the materials of the survey “Comprehensive monitoring of living conditions” (2011, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022) collected by the Governmental Statistical Department (Rosstat) on bi-annual basis. In this research, we group grouped and discuss recreational practices in Russia in three categories: (1) recreational practices involving travelling of any duration, (2) entertainment and leisure activities that do not require travelling, (3) physical health related active recreation practices. Secondly, the analysis is supplemented by selected studies to discuss the trends of building and implementing sustainable framework for sport, leisure, travelling in Russia.
