HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Connected and Automated Vehicle Scenario Manager Graphical User Interface
Tikhonov R., Efendiev M. T., Fedotenkov A. A., 2026 International Russian Smart Industry Conference (SmartIndustryCon) 2026 P. 542–547
High-fidelity simulation environments like CARLA and ROS are essential for connected and automated vehicle research. They allow researchers to verify and validate new software and technology without the time, financial, and safety overheads of real-world testing. However, their operation requires considerable expertise for creating platform-specific scenario configuration files, which complicates the research workflow. This paper ...

Parallel Multi-Level Simulation for Large-Scale Detailed Intelligent Transportation System Modeling
Stepanyants V., Karpov A., Margaryan A. et al., FUTURE TRANSPORTATION 2025 Vol. 5 No. 4 Article 141
Nowadays, the problems of traffic accidents, inefficiency, and congestion still affect transportation systems. Conventional solutions often do not resolve and can even exacerbate the problems. Intelligent transportation system (ITS) technology, including intelligent vehicles, could provide a solution for these problems. However, such technologies should be thoroughly verified and validated before their large-scale adoption. Computer simulation ...

Vitaly G. Stepanyants, Mkrtchyan G., Rakhimullina V. et al., IEEE Access 2025 Vol. 13 P. 134793–134803
Population growth has led to an increased demand for transportation. This increase has subsequently resulted in problems such as road accidents, greenhouse gas emissions, and others. Automated and connected vehicles could be a solution to these problems. However, before they can be released on public roads, they must go through extensive testing, including computer simulation. ...

Effects of Simulator Fidelity on Automated Vehicle Object Perception Accuracy
Grigoriy Simakov, Stepanyants V., Martyusheva A., , in: 2025 International Russian Smart Industry Conference (SmartIndustryCon).: Sochi: IEEE, 2025. P. 794–798.
The development of intelligent transportation systems, and intelligent vehicles in particular, requires significant time and effort, with one of the primary phases being the training of the automated driving system. This training can be conducted using real-world annotated data or within a simulation environment. Simulation tools can provide a wide array of traffic scenarios unavailable ...
