О праве избрания митрополита Киевского
The article explores the question of how the Metropolitan of Kiev was chosen in the pre-Mongol period. On the one hand, the metropolitan’s election ceremony was undoubtedly the prerogative of the metropolitans of the Church of Constantinople (just as his ordination was the prerogative of the patriarch). However, the preliminary selection of a specific candidate, at least in 1052–1163, took place in coordination with the embassy of the Kiev prince ( just as in the s with the order of the emperor). Such an embassy arrived in connection with the death of the previous metropolitan, after some time or simultaneously on other occasions, just as the choice of the patriarch’s candidacy belonged to the emperor. In particular, the task of this embassy was, in all likelihood, to present the political and financial conditions of the Metropolitan’s existence in Kiev. Thus, the choice of the candidacy of the Metropolitan of Kiev depended not only on the Church of Constantinople, but also on the Prince of Kiev.
