The article examines the role and importance of the family as one of the most important institutions of socialization, the mechanism and the degree of its influence on the change of socio-professional structure of modern Russian society. One of the main conclusions is that the intergenerational mobility is mostly of a forced nature, and is largely due to deep structural shifts in the Russian economy.
