Scientists Develop Algorithm for Accurate Financial Time Series Forecasting
Researchers at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science benchmarked more than 200,000 model configurations for predicting financial asset prices and realised volatility, showing that performance can be improved by filtering out noise at specific frequencies in advance. This technique increased accuracy in 65% of cases. The authors also developed their own algorithm, which achieves accuracy comparable to that of the best models while requiring less computational power. The study has been published in Applied Soft Computing.

Robustness of Centrality Measures Under Incomplete Data
Meshcheryakova N., Shvydun S., , in: Complex Networks & Their Applications XII: Proceedings of The Twelfth International Conference on Complex Networks and their Applications: COMPLEX NETWORKS 2023, Volume 3Vol. 1143.: Springer, 2024. P. 321–331.
Understanding of real systems relies on the identification of its central elements. Over the years, a large number of centrality measures have been proposed to assess the importance of nodes in complex networks. However, most real networks are incomplete and contain incorrect data, resulting in a high sensitivity of centrality indices. In this paper, we ...

On the minimum number of maximal distance-k independent sets in trees
Taletskii D., / Series arXiv "math". 2026.
A vertex subset of a graph is called a \textit{distance-$k$ independent set} if the distance between any two of its distinct vertices is at least $k + 1$. For all $n,k \geq 1$, we determine the minimum possible number of inclusion-wise maximal distance-$k$ independent sets among all $n$-vertex trees. It equals~$n$ if $n \leq k ...

Tsareva O. O., Malova H. V., V. Yu. Popov et al., Plasma Physics Reports 2026 Vol. 52 No. 2 P. 179–185
The influence of asymmetry of plasma sources on the structure and spatial localization of a superthin current sheet (STCS) supported by demagnetized electrons is studied using a self-consistent model. The simulation takes into account the presence of a single plasma source in the northern hemisphere, which makes the plasma flow asymmetric. It is demonstrated that the asymmetry of ...

On Suspension Equivalent Homeomorphisms
Pochinka O., Yakovlev E., Shmukler V., Russian Journal of Nonlinear Dynamics 2026
Every discrete dynamical system (cascade) generated by a homeomorphism induces a continuous dynamic system (flow) — a suspension. However, not every flow is equivalent to a suspension over a cascade, a necessary and sufficient condition for this is the existence of a global section for the flow. In the case of the existence, the flow is equivalent to ...

Krivonosov M., Nazarenko T., Bacalini M. G. et al., Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2022 Vol. 165 Article 112863
Despite the fact that the cause of Down Syndrome (DS) is well established, the underlying molecular mechanisms that contribute to the syndrome and the phenotype of accelerated aging remain largely unknown. DNA methylation profiles are largely altered in DS, but it remains unclear how different methylation regions and probes are structured into a network of interactions. We ...

Distances in Higher-Order Networks and the Metric Structure of Hypergraphs
Vasilyeva E., Romance M., Ivan Samoylenko et al., Entropy 2023 Vol. 25 No. 6 Article 923
We explore the metric structure of networks with higher-order interactions and introduce a novel definition of distance for hypergraphs that extends the classic methods reported in the literature. The new metric incorporates two critical factors: (1) the inter-node distance within each hyperedge, and (2) the distance between hyperedges in the network. As such, it involves ...

Emergence of extreme events in coupled systems with time-dependent interactions
Kumarasamy S., Srinivasan S., Gogoi P. B. et al., Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation 2022 Vol. 107 Article 106170
We present a class of extreme events manifested in dynamical systems involving time-dependentattractive  and  repulsive  couplings.   We  consider  two  cases  of  time-varying  coupling  strengths  -(i)  explicit  time-dependence  (periodically  varying)  and  (ii)  implicit  time  dependence  (distance-dependent coupling).  In both of these cases, the coupled systems generate quasi-stable equilibriumpoints,  which  in  turn  are  responsible  for  the ...
