For the first time, the elective acts of townsmen community of Irkutsk from the late 17th century are being published. These "elections" (vybory) serve as a valuable source for the history of communal self-governance and have garnered attention from researchers in the past. However, the self-governance of Eastern Siberia remains largely unstudied to this day, making the publication of the Irkutsk acts highly significant for scholarly research. The publication focuses on the most comprehensive collection of elective acts from 1698, as this period is the most well-preserved and allows for the demonstration of both unique and typical characteristics of Irkutsk's self-governance.
