‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

Dvoynikova A., Кондратенко К.

The analytical possibilities of using semantic network analysis in qualitative research are considered. A scheme for constructing a semantic map and its integration with the results of the qualitative stage is proposed. It is shown that the implementation of semantic networks for analyzing qualitative data enables validation of conclusions. ...

The steady increase in the popularity of social media as a means of communication actualizes methodological issues related to processing of short texts with less semantic context than large corpora, which are widely used for training and testing machine learning models for textual data. Topic modeling, an unsupervised machine learning technique aimed at aggregating texts ...

Index Construction Methodology Using Training Sample Based on Pairwise Comparisons
Sirotin V., Arkhipova M., , in: The Proceedings of the 17th European Conference on Research Methodology for Business and Management Studies ECRM 2018.: The University of Roma TRE Rome, 2018. P. 372–379.
Most of index construction techniques combine measured features presenting different components of the index. To obtain the correct weights of the features is a matter of great importance. Widely used principal component analysis allows us to do without training sample. It settles the weight of the feature according to its variability. But this method works ...
