‘I Would Like My Research to Help Make the World a Calmer and Better Place
Whatever task Saraa Ali, Junior Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Methods for Big Data Analysis (LAMBDA) of the AI and Digital Science Institute (HSE Faculty of Computer Science), is working on, she thinks about how it can benefit people. She told the Young Scientists of HSE University project about her large family, diagnosing three-phase motors, and her dream of building a children’s home in her native country.

‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

‘I Like Self-Fulfilling Prophecies
Andrey Vorchik studies happiness, delivers popular science lectures, and believes that science should address social issues as well. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, he spoke about how emotions influence decision-making, the Bermuda Triangle formed by the bathroom, refrigerator, and bed, and the ideal formula for education.

Banner blindness as the suppression process: No perceptual load effect on web advertising detection
Gorbatova K., Grigoriy Anufriev, Elena Gorbunova, Visual Cognition 2023 Vol. 31 No. 3 P. 256–276
The study represents an application of perceptual load theory to the real-world internet users’ behavior and contributes to the dispute whether banner blindness – a tendency to ignore the banners on web pages – is a special case of inattentional blindness or a separate phenomenon. Perceptual load theory claims that processing of task-irrelevant information can ...

The perceptual load effect on target detection in banner blindness
Ksenia Gorbatova, Grigoriy Anufriev, Gorbunova E. S., / Series WP BRP "PSYCHOLOGY". 2020.
Perceptual load theory claims that the processing of task-irrelevant information can be predicted by the level of perceptual load. If a particular task places a high demand on attention, taskirrelevant stimuli processing can be prevented. That means that in a high-load condition the subjects are more likely to ignore distractors, while in a low-load condition, ...

Исследование соотношения автоматических и контролируемых процессов обработки информации у больных шизофренией
Pavlova A., Березанцева М.

Temporal ambiguity of onsets in a cueing task prevents facilitation but not Inhibition of return
Malevich T., Ardasheva L., Krüger H. et al., Attention, Perception and Psychophysics 2018 No. 80 (1) P. 106–117
It has been noted that it has been the case that it has been recognized as a paradigm. Krüger, MacInnes, and Hunt (2014) propose that it is possible to re-enterrant processing. In the case of experiments, we’ve been working on the asynchrony (CTOA) ranging from -300 to + 1000ms. An analysis of the reaction time ...
