The article deals with the first Leibniz’s project of the universal writing
(polygraphy) as it had been developed by 20 years old philosopher inhis
„Dissertatio de Arte Combinatotia“ (1666) in connection with his reform of
inventive logic and with his idea of metaphysics as a doctrine of the relations
of Being to Being. The author argues that under the strong influence of lullistic
and neoplatonic ideas of the Hernborn encyclopedism on the one hand and
of the Th. Hobbes’ doctrine of thinking as computation on the other hand
Leibniz was eager to create his own „natural“ system of writing, that ougth
to be visual representation of the structure of concepts and the process of
reasoning itself.
