Geopolitics of Energy. 2008. Vol. 30. No. 10-11. P. 7–12.
According to Dr Shamil Yenikeyeff, the latest military conflict between Georgia and Russia over the autonomous region of South Ossetia highlights the general political and ethnic instability in the region. This instability is likely to have a serious impact on export routes for Caspian and Central Asian hydrocarbons. The new energy game in the region is likely to be dominated by Russia, China and the energy producing nations of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, and could potentially include Iran.
