The article focuses on how the reception of formalist legacy (works of Tynjanov, Shklovsky and Eichenbaum) in Western and Eastern Europe, especially after the termination of the work of the school in 1930. Emphasis is placed on the activities of Roman Jakobson, who along with Rene Wellek and Victor Ehrlich in 1950-1960s approved of Russian formalism as direct and immediate predecessor of structuralism.
