HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

Управление состояниями в сверхпроводниковых квантовых процессорах

Успехи физических наук. 2022. Т. 192. № 5. С. 457–476.
Вожаков В. А., Бастракова М. В., Кленов Н. В., Соловьев И. И., Погосов В. В., Бабухин Д. В., Жуков А. А., Satanin A.

The review highlights recent advances in the development of superconducting qubits and quantum circuits designed for a new generation of quantum processors. It primarily focuses on the analysis of control methods for multi-qubit systems — multi-particle quantum systems with configurable, including in situ, parameters of individual elements, and connections between them. It is shown how the solution of fundamental physical problems in this area (for example, the interaction of an artificial atom with strong and short field pulses) allows increasing the efficiency of existing quantum processors when implementing specific algorithms.

Green synthesis of Bi-functional silica nanoparticles towards highly efficient photocatalysis and antibacterial application
Das A., Hazarika A. P., Das S. K. et al., Physica B: Condensed Matter 2026 Vol. 738
Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus, LG-SiO2), horsetail (Equisetum debile, SG-SiO2), and cassava leaves (Manihot esculenta, CL-SiO2) were used to green-synthesize silica (SiO2) nanoparticles (NPs). While LG-SiO2 and SG-SiO2 had strong (101) peaks and a large 22° amorphous peak, XRD of CL-SiO2 verified crystallinity. LG-SiO2 (agglomerated porous), SG-SiO2 (rectangular-cube agglomerates), and CL-SiO2 (flake agglomerates) had different morphologies. The TEM image of LG-SiO2 revealed agglomerated ...

Signatures of Reconnection and a Split Heliospheric Tail in High-energy Energetic Neutral Atoms
Kornbleuth M., Opher M., Drake J. F. et al., Astrophysical Journal 2026 Vol. 1004 No. 1 Article 1
The shape of the heliosphere, regarded as comet-like since the 1960s, has recently been the subject of intense debate in the last decade. There is disagreement as to whether the heliospheric tail extends to ∼10,000 au in a comet-like shape or if it is short (∼400 au) with a split. Energetic neutral atom (ENA) maps from ...

Two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride-ferrofluid hybrids enable efficient magnetic cooling
Карцев А. И., Nishant T., Saswata G. et al., Journal of Materials Chemistry C 2026 Article -
Overheating remains a critical limitation in high-performance electronic and computing systems, necessitating the development of efficient thermal management fluids. In this work, a magnetically responsive hybrid ferrofluid was developed by incorporating two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride (2D-hBN) nanosheets into a Mn–Zn–ferrite-based ferrofluid. The hybrid system retains magnetic responsiveness while leveraging the high in-plane thermal conductivity and chemical stability of 2D-hBN nanosheets. ...

The critical role of shear antiphase boundaries in τ-Mn(Al,Ga) rapidly quenched alloy
Fortuna A. S., A.I. Kartsev, Gorshenkov M. V. et al., Journal of Alloys and Compounds 2026 Vol. 1070 Article 188711
The τ-phase in Mn-Al-Ga alloys is a promising candidate for rare-earth-free permanent magnets. This study re-veals that the τ(γ₂)-phase in rapidly quenched Mn55Al36Ga9 ribbons contains a high density of dislocations, which form antiphase boundaries (APBs). Using transmission electron microscopy and density functional theory, we demonstrate that Mn atoms at these APBs couple antiferromagnetically. This antiferromagnetic interaction is identified ...

Combined Experimental and Ab Initio Study of Sc Doping in MgB2: Decoupling Electronic and Microstructural Effects on Superconductivity
Dikhtievskaya K., Argunov E., Карцев А. И. et al., The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters 2026 Vol. 17 No. 17 P. 4999–5004
In this study we revealed the effect of scandium doping on the electronic and superconducting properties of the MgB2 compound. Calculations demonstrate that Sc substitutes for Mg atoms, acting as an electron donor. Mg substitution diminishes the density of states in the σ-band and attenuates the electron–phonon coupling, thereby elucidating the reduction in critical temperature. Simultaneously, ...

Resonators based on nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) using two-dimensional (2D) materials with high-quality factors and excellent electrical control are critical for tunable coherent phonon dynamics, resonant sensors and wireless communications. However, their performance is fundamentally limited by the lack of a unified framework governing energy dissipation mechanisms and their electrical tunability. Here, we synergistically modulate both ...

Enhanced Terahertz Thermoelectricity Via Engineered Van Hove Singularities and Nernst Effect in Moiré Superlattices
Elesin L., Shilov A., Jana S. et al., Advanced Functional Materials 2026 P. 1–10
Thermoelectric materials, long explored for energy harvesting and thermal sensing, convert heat directly into electrical signals. Extending their application to the terahertz (THz) frequency range opens opportunities for low-noise, bias-free THz detection, yet conventional thermoelectrics lack the sensitivity required for practical devices. Thermoelectric coefficients can be strongly enhanced near van Hove singularities (VHS), though these ...

We perform a Monte Carlo analysis of the Ising model on many three-dimensional lattices. By means of finite-size scaling we obtain the critical points and determine the scaling dimensions. As expected, the critical exponents agree with the three-dimensional Ising universality class for all models. The irrelevant field, as revealed by the correction-to-scaling amplitudes, appears to ...

Stolyarov V. S., Kozlov S. N., Yakovlev D. S. et al., Communications Materials 2026 Vol. 7 Article 91
Superconducting proximity junctions based on topological insulators are widely believed to harbor Majorana-like bound states. If so, the static current phase relationship (CPR) should have a 4π-periodic component. It is then usually assumed that the static CPR can be extended to treat dynamic, voltage-biased, experiments and can justify the suppression of the first phase-lock-in microwave ...

On Controllability of Λ- and V-Atoms and Other Three-Level Systems with Two Allowed Transitions
Kuznetsov S. A., Pechen A. N., Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics 2023 Vol. 44 P. 2101–2108
A three-level Λ-atom (resp., V-atom) is a three-level quantum system with a forbidden direct transition between the two lowest (resp., highest) energy states. These systems are particular examples of three-level systems with only two allowed transitions and are important in quantum optics, e.g., for modeling electromagnetically induced transparency, etc. For generality, we consider not only Λ- ...

Kuznetsov S. A., Pechen A. N., Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics 2022 Vol. 43 P. 1683–1692
Last decades have faced considerable interest in various problems of quantum control. One of them is to determine which quantum systems are controllable, meaning that all possible states of such systems can be reached from any initial one under available controls. This paper focuses on controllability exploration of a specific four-level quantum system with three ...

Direct experimental observation of sub-Poissonian photon statistics by means of multiphoton scattering on a two-level system
Dmitriev A. Y., Vasenin A. V., Gunin S. A. et al., Physical Review A: Atomic, Molecular, and Optical physics 2025 Vol. 111 No. 4 Article 043715
A cascade of two-level superconducting artificial atoms—a source and a probe—strongly coupled to a semi-infinite waveguide is a promising tool for observing nontrivial phenomena in quantum nonlinear optics. The probe atom can scatter an antibunched radiation emitted from the source, thereby generating a field with specific properties. We experimentally demonstrate wave mixing between nonclassical light ...
